As we prepare to celebrate America’s 250th Independence Day, we want to remind everyone that Hot Springs County is currently under a Stage 1 Fire Ban. With dry conditions and increased fire danger, we ask everyone to be especially mindful while enjoying the holiday. Fireworks and summer celebrations bring an increased risk of fire, and it only takes one spark to change everything. Please make fire safety part of your celebration.
We also want to share a fundraising update. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, our donation jars around town have raised approximately $2,000 toward this year’s fireworks display. Every dollar donated helps make this celebration possible, and we are truly grateful for your continued support.
The Thermopolis Volunteer Fire Department’s public fireworks display will once again be launched from T Hill. As always, our members will spend countless hours planning and preparing for the event. We will be taking extensive safety precautions before, during, and after the display, carefully evaluating weather, fuel conditions, fire danger, and every other factor that could affect public safety.
Our first priority has always been, and always will be, the safety of our community. If conditions become unsafe or any critical situation develops, we will not hesitate to reevaluate the event. While we all look forward to celebrating together, no fireworks show is worth putting lives, property, or our community at unnecessary risk.
As firefighters, we often talk about the “firefighter within”—the instinct to protect others before ourselves. This Independence Day, we ask everyone to embrace that same spirit. Be aware of your surroundings, use good judgment, and help prevent fires before they start. Together, we can ensure this historic celebration is remembered for the joy it brings—not for preventable emergencies.
