Last night, the Emancipation Committee of Upson hosted their annual Heritage Award Banquet. We are proud of our very own, Fire Chief Jeremy Walker for receiving the Freddie Brown First Responders Award.
Freddie Brown was a trailblazer in public service and emergency response being one of the first African American EMTs in Upson County along with being the first African American Fire Lieutenant and Fire Captain in the City of Thomaston Fire Department. Freddie Brown paved the way for future generations of first responders with his spirit of courage, leadership and service to the community.
Chief Jeremy Walker was nominated and chosen for having those exact same qualities.
“I am deeply honored to receive this award. I sincerely thank everyone who made this recognition possible. This award reflects the support, encouragement, and dedication of so many people who have contributed along the way.
I am grateful for the opportunity to serve and work alongside such outstanding individuals. This recognition inspires me to continue striving for excellence and making a positive difference in our community.
Thank you for this tremendous honor. I accept it with gratitude and humility.”
