💙🚔Today, 5-year-old Nathan Porter stopped by the Thomaston Police Department and told us he wants to be a police officer when he grows up!

Capt. Hammock spent some time with Nathan and sent him home with a few police goodies to help kick-start his future career.

Everyone help us give Nathan a big hello in the comments! 👮‍♂️💙🚓

We would like to personally thank the one citizen who said, “Wow, we really needed rain,” because apparently the weather took that as a personal challenge and has not stopped since. 🙄

At this point, the Thomaston Police Department is considering the following operational changes:

• Replacing patrol cars with jet skis (ohh.. how fun!)
• Issuing pool noodles with every citation
• Changing “road patrol” to “water patrol”
• Installing a boat ramp behind the police department 🚤

A few reminders while Mother Nature continues whatever emotional journey, she’s currently on:

☔ Headlights ON in the rain.
☔ Slow down. Your tires are not magically immune to hydroplaning.
☔ If you can’t see the road anymore because the rain is coming sideways, maybe now is not the time to test your vehicle’s “sport mode.”
☔ Hazard lights do not suddenly qualify your Honda Accord to operate as a bass boat.

Also, to the people still driving 70 mph through standing water and soaking every car beside you… respectfully… we hope both sides of your pillow stay warm and sweaty tonight.

Stay safe, Thomaston.

💙This week, the Thomaston Police Department proudly recognizes National Police Week 2026 and honors the brave men and women who serve our community each and every day.

Law enforcement is more than a badge and uniform — it’s long hours, missed holidays, difficult calls, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to protecting others. Behind every call answered and every shift worked are officers, dispatchers, support staff, and families who dedicate themselves to keeping our community safe.

During National Police Week, we remember and honor the officers across this nation who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, while also recognizing those who continue to serve with courage, integrity, and compassion every day.

To our officers and staff here at the Thomaston Police Department: thank you for your dedication to this community and for answering the call to serve.

We also want to thank our community for the continued support you show our department throughout the year. It does not go unnoticed. 💙

The Thomaston Police Department would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone who participated in and attended our Citizens Police Academy this year! We appreciate each of you taking the time each week to learn more about our department, our officers, and the daily operations of law enforcement. Your support and involvement in our community truly means a lot to us.

We would also like to give a special thank you to our incredible financial sponsors, Tidal Wave and United Bank, as well as all of our amazing food sponsors who helped make this program possible. Your continued support of our department and community initiatives does not go unnoticed.

Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts, we were unable to host an in-person graduation ceremony this year. While we hate that we couldn’t get everyone’s schedules aligned, we are still incredibly thankful for all of our attendees and their participation throughout the academy. We hope everyone enjoys this year’s virtual graduation experience and the opportunity to look back on all the great memories made during the academy.

Thank you again for supporting the Thomaston Police Department and allowing us the opportunity to connect with our community. We look forward to seeing our new participants next year!

Enjoy this video highlighting some of the events and memories from the 2026 Citizens Police Academy! 🚔💙

Chief Richardson and the Police Department Command Staff had a productive and positive community meeting this evening with members of the Downtown community to discuss this year’s Annual Emancipation Celebration.

A special thank you to Macedonia Baptist Church and Pastor Eddie Johnson for graciously hosting the meeting. We are grateful for the renewed partnership between community members, the Downtown Committee, and public safety officials as we work together to strengthen event planning and public safety efforts in preparation for what we hope will be the best celebration yet.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussion. We are excited and look forward to a safe, successful, and memorable event for our entire community.

Good news: rain is in the forecast for this evening 🌧️ Bad news: some of y’all still think headlights are optional… so let’s go over this again…

We know some of y’all love a challenge but driving around in low visibility like you’re trying to unlock a stealth achievement isn’t the move. If your windshield wipers are on, your headlights should be too. Yes… even in the daytime. Yes… even if you ‘can see fine.’ Congrats, your vision is great. Visible to everyone else? Not so much.

And before anyone argues with us in the comments, allow us to introduce your new favorite reading material: O.C.G.A. 40-8-20. It’s not a suggestion, it’s a lifestyle.

Turn your headlights on, slow it down, and maybe—just maybe—we can all get through this evening without exchanging insurance info, stories, and a little too much eye contact on the side of the road 🚔
