To kick off Summer Reading 2026, we're hitting the ground... walking.

Join our brand-new adult walking club as we put boots (well, hopefully tennis shoes) on the ground and get some exercise around downtown Thomasville!

NOTE: while we will not be walking for hours on end, and although it is not forecasted to be a scorcher, it is still June in North Carolina! Please bring some water to drink and make sure you are wearing walking-appropriate footwear.
[Ages 18+ | Registration required]

A little peek into the most magical day at the Thomasville Public Library. Yo-Yo Ma spoke to the vital work public libraries—especially those like us in small and rural communities—play in enriching and empowering people’s lives. We’re so much more than just books—free programs, technology access, outreach, digital and life resources, and a safe, community-oriented space for you to live, learn, and grow. We could not be more thankful for his kind, validating words, and the incredible show of support to our community.

Whether you’re here in the Chair City, elsewhere in Davidson County, or in any other corner of the world: go check out your public library. Odds are, they can get you just what you need.

And you never know who you might run into 😉

The newest library card holder at the Thomasville Public Library? The incomparable Yo-Yo Ma.

The world-famous cello virtuoso took time out of his busy touring schedule to stop in to the Thomasville Public Library and talk with staff about the challenges and triumphs of local library service, the community impact of our free library programming, and what makes Thomasville such a special place. He also signed up for a library card and blessed us with a once-in-a-lifetime performance, right from the reference desk.

None of us here have any idea what to do with ourselves right now. But we cannot thank the prodigious Mr. Ma enough for his kindness, generosity, and interest in our local library's impact on our community. It has been a day none of us will ever forget.
