Mrs. McMullen's classes are currently exploring theatre history and how early forms of theatre may have developed from the storytelling, celebrations, and community activities of ancient societies.

For their final project in this unit, students have divided into groups and are creating their own fictional ancient civilizations. Each group is developing the major elements of its society, including a form of government, a written history, careers and occupations, laws, a unique symbol, and a map of their community.

Students will also create and perform a significant community ceremony or event based on their fictional civilization. Examples might include a celebration marking the beginning of a new season, a community gathering to recognize an important achievement, or a ceremony welcoming a new leader. Students are encouraged to be imaginative, creative, and even a little silly as they develop the traditions, rules, and customs of their imagined societies!
