The Century and Heritage Farm program recognizes multi-generational farm families who have been on their farms for 100 or 150 years. We love to celebrate these families at the Iowa State Fair each summer. If your family is eligible for this recognition, please submit your application by June 1 to be part of the celebration this year. ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸšœPlanting season is underway, and that means more farm equipment may be on rural roads. Here are some quick tips for all drivers as we share the road this season:
โœ… Stay alert, especially at dusk when farmers are heading home from the field.
โœ… Be ready to slow down. Farm equipment travels much slower than regular traffic.
โœ… Keep your distance. Stay at least 3 seconds behind.
โœ… Pass with care, and only in a legal passing zone, if you have plenty of room and clear view.
โœ… Be patient so everyone gets home safely.

Happy National Ag Day and Iowa Ag Week! celebrates the farmers, families, and communities who have sustained Iowa and the nation for generations.

โ€œAs we recognize the 250th anniversary of our nationโ€™s founding, it is important to remember that many of our founders were farmers who understood that a strong republic depends on a strong agricultural foundation,โ€ said Secretary Naig. โ€œEarly Americans fought to defend our freedom and liberty, and for the last 250 years farmers have helped sustain that republic by producing the food, fuel, and fiber that keep our nation strong. Here in Iowa, agriculture continues that proud tradition every single day. Iowa Ag Week is a great opportunity to celebrate the farm families and agricultural leaders who are helping keep Iowa and America strong.โ€
