Congratulations on Your Retirement, Terry Montgomery! 🎉

At the McDuffie County Board of Commissioners meeting on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, the Board proudly recognized Terry Montgomery upon his retirement after an incredible 37 years of dedicated service to McDuffie County.

Terry began his career with the County on July 31, 1989, and faithfully served as Operations Coordinator with the Solid Waste Department. Throughout the years, his professionalism, dependability, knowledge, and commitment to serving our citizens have made a lasting impact on both the department and our community.

We are grateful for the many years Terry devoted to McDuffie County and for the example of hard work and service he leaves behind.

Please join us in congratulating Terry on his well-earned retirement and wishing him many happy, healthy, and fulfilling years ahead!

McDuffie County mourns the loss of a dedicated public servant, respected leader, and dear friend, Vice Chairman Sammie L. Wilson, Sr.

For more than 30 years, Commissioner Wilson faithfully served the citizens of District 1 and the people of McDuffie County. Throughout those years, he gave his time, wisdom, and heart to this community, serving not only on the Board of Commissioners, but also through numerous local boards, committees, civic organizations, his church, and many other efforts dedicated to making McDuffie County a better place.

Those who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside Sammie will remember far more than the offices he held. They will remember his kindness, his steady presence, his concern for others, and the genuine love he had for the people he represented. He was a trusted friend, mentor, colleague, and servant leader whose impact on McDuffie County cannot be measured simply in years.

His absence will be deeply felt throughout our county, especially by those who served beside him and knew the heart he had for this community.

The McDuffie County Board of Commissioners and County staff extend our deepest condolences to the Wilson family, his friends, and all those whose lives were touched by him. We ask our community to keep his family in your thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.

We are grateful for his many years of faithful service and for the legacy he leaves behind.

Rest in peace, Vice Chairman Wilson. McDuffie County is better because you served it, and you will be deeply missed.

📢 Landfill Temporary Closure Notice

Please be advised that the McDuffie County Landfill will be closed on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m.

The Landfill will reopen at 1:30 p.m. and resume normal operations.

McDuffie County Recreation Announces New Fall Baseball, Softball, and T-Ball Programs

McDuffie County Recreation is excited to announce the addition of Fall T-Ball, Baseball, and Softball to our 2026 recreation lineup.

The new fall season is designed to provide players and volunteer coaches with additional opportunities to develop their skills and prepare for the spring season in a fun, instructional environment.

Registration: August 10 – October 11, 2026
Early Registration (August 10–23): $35
Standard Registration: $50

The season will feature a modified schedule played primarily during November, with an emphasis on player development while still encouraging friendly competition.

To help ensure a successful season, we ask families to register as early as possible so teams can be organized and uniforms ordered on time.

We are also planning a one-day coaches' clinic to help prepare and support our volunteer coaches.

As we launch this new program, we appreciate the community's patience and support. We're excited to provide another opportunity for our youth to learn, grow, and enjoy the game.

We look forward to seeing everyone on the diamond this fall!
