Check out one of the newest items in our collection! This porcelain head was used to teach phrenology, a now-discredited field of study that claimed a person's personality and mental traits could be determined by the shape of their skull.

I recently had a wonderful conversation with Winston Hunt, who generously donated this piece to the museum, about his experiences serving as a Navy medic in Vietnam and his journey in the medical field afterward. We're grateful not only for this fascinating artifact, but also for the opportunity to hear and preserve stories from members of our community.

We're incredibly thankful for this new addition to the collection, and we can't wait to put it on display for all of you to see!

Here's an item I rarely get to show folks: a pictorial Bible from 1895, printed by Harris, Jones & Co. Despite its age, the item remains remarkably intact, though the worn leather binding, frayed spine, and edge deterioration show over a century of careful use and handling. We have it on display in the museum, but because it's so delicate, I can't show visitors all of the wonderful illustrations inside. So, take a look here!

Good morning! At the museum's 250th celebration on June 27th at the Wrightsboro Pavilion, we're gonna award hundreds of dollars to 3 lucky 4th-12th students who win our literary competition!

If you're a 4th-12th student, or you know one who hasn't heard about the competition, there's no time like the present to start working on a submission. To make sure everyone has a chance to participate, we're extending the deadline for submissions to May 15th. Good luck 🇺🇸

Entries may be submitted by email at [email protected] or delivered in person to the museum.

The Museum is going through some exciting changes!

The Wells Collection recently brought us a transport box once used for Dr. Pitts' medicine. It's an incredible piece that will be a great addition to our medical history section.

We've also made a few display updates. Jake McCord's beautiful cowgirl painting has been moved onto the porch, and our easel now has a striking portrait of McCord by Ernest Lee.

In Gallery III, we've relocated a couple of display cases to the back room as we prepare for an upcoming exhibit on colonial-era America. Filling that space, we pulled out some of our larger artifacts, including an industrial scale and a late 19th-century wagon wheel.

Stop by soon to see what's new! We're open today until 5pm and tomorrow from 1-5pm. Our staff and volunteers are always happy to give a complimentary tour.

The McDuffie Museum is hosting a community celebration for the 250th anniversary of American Independence, and we'd love for you to join us! We know everyone is going to be busy on July 4th, so we will be gathered at the Wrightsboro Pavilion from 10AM to 2PM on Saturday, June 27th!

The highlight of the day will be a historical reenactment performed by the Skunk Brigade. It's a great opportunity to see some local history in action and learn more about the Revolutionary era. We'll also have activities for kids! If you haven't seen a cannon or musket fired, here's your chance 🇺🇸

We will also have lunch available for purchase throughout the event. All proceeds from the lunch sale go directly toward supporting the museum's upcoming programs and preservation efforts. Save the date and stay tuned for more!
