At last week's Board of Commissioners meeting, the Board approved the purchase of a new rescue pumper (fire truck) to replace the 22-year-old Rescue 38. Thank you to the committee who volunteered many hours to research and design the perfect vehicle to meet our township's needs - Patrick Taylor, Ray Stackhouse, Ryan Lewis, Donald Taylor, Eric Stewart, and Zach McFiggins.

At last week's Board of Commissioners meeting, the Board was presented with a preliminary plan for Segment 5 of the Beaver Creek Trail. When the entire trail is completed, it will connect Lloyd Park to Municipal Park with a 10ft multi-use trail, along beautiful Beaver Creek. Segment 5 is the first part we're working on, since it's entirely on township-owned property. The trail will follow the northern edge of the dog park, head into the woods, across Beaver Run, and out the south side into Downingtown. The design includes a new fence around the dog park (except on the stream side) with gates at both ends. It also provides facilities for stormwater runoff which will offset the impervious surface the trail will add and also help infiltrate water before it reaches the dog park (meaning less mud!). It's an exciting project and we hope you'll share it with your neighbors and help us move it forward to completion! You can see more maps and plans here https://www.calntownship.org/beaver-creek-trail.html This plan was made possible through a Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program grant from Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development

This morning, Caln commissioners Jane Kennedy and Mark Evans met up with “walking artist” Ken Johnston as he explores Chester County on foot to learn about the rich history of African Americans in our area. Commissioner Kennedy shared some Coatesville history and took him on a tour of Carver Court (on the National Register of Historic Places). He was presented with a proclamation from the township acknowledging his important project. If you see Ken on his walk, be sure to wave! Tennis Court update - We're happy with the enthusiasm for our newly resurfaced tennis/pickleball courts. Unfortunately, there has been some peeling of the new surface which caused us to lock the courts temporarily. As of this morning, the re-surfacing company has been here and helped us make a plan for moving forward. The tennis courts have been unlocked and will be first-come, first served as before. When the weather warms up next spring, we will be working with the company to address the trouble spots and the courts will be closed again while that takes place. Thanks for your patience as we continue working to improve our parks!

DRAFT WATERSHEDS 2045 PLAN NOW AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC REVIEW AND COMMENT

The Chester County Water Resources Authority is pleased to announce that a draft of Watersheds 2045, Chester County’s new integrated water resources plan, is now available for public review and comment. Comments will be accepted via email, mail, or our web form through November 17th, 2023.

The original Watersheds plan, released in 2002, guided two decades of work to protect and enhance streams, lakes, and groundwater in Chester County. Watersheds 2045 builds on that legacy by providing a framework to empower communities to protect, sustain, enhance, and enjoy our shared water resources. The plan addresses a broad spectrum of water resource issues that impact the County, including stormwater and flooding, pollution prevention and mitigation, recreational access, and sustainable water supplies. Upon adoption, it will also serve as the updated County-wide Act 167 Plan and Rivers Conservation Plan.

The draft plan, along with its appendices, is available on the CCWRA website at https://www.chesco.org/4275/Chester-County-Watersheds-2045. Public comments can be submitted through thes web form, via email to [email protected], or by mail to:
Chester County Water Resources Authority
601 Westtown Road, Suite 260
West Chester, PA 19380

WATERSHEDS 2045 PUBLIC MEETINGS:

CCWRA is hosting two upcoming public meetings where the draft plan will be presented. Click on the link above for more information and to register.

Tuesday, October 17th at 6pm at the Chester County Public Safety Training Campus in Coatesville (in-person)
Tuesday, October 24th at 6pm via Zoom webinar (virtual)

For those who are interested but unable to attend either event, a pre-recorded informational session will be made available on CCWRA’s website at https://www.chesco.org/4275/Chester-County-Watersheds-2045. A formal public hearing on the draft plan is expected in mid-November, and additional details on that will be published soon.

If you have any questions about the plan, please contact Kate Hutelmyer at [email protected] or 610-344-5400.

Pennsylvania American Water, Water Service Line Inventory Project.
Starting next week (SEPT 11), contractors from PA American Water will be in Caln Township going door-to-door collecting responses to a survey that was previously sent out to residents. American Water will be collecting information from those that did not fill out the survey online. All contractors representing Pennsylvania American Water in the field will be wearing logoed, high-visibility vests and carrying official photo ID badges.
We are notifying the residents in our community that this is a legitimate effort and that the project is important so we can identify, and eventually replace service lines made of certain material.
Your assistance is very important in helping us meet the goal of identifying and replacing lead service lines. For more information, visit www.Pennsylvaniaamwater.com or call Pennsylvania American Water's contractor Greeley and Hansen at 877-201-7926.

Route 322 Update:
On November 23, 2022, the township received notification from the developer of Mi Place that they were anticipating a road closure of Route 322 for utility installation, but without a starting date established. At that time there remained no formal communication from PennDOT that the closure was going to occur, so while emergency service organizations were notified for planning purposes, there was no public notification by PennDOT or Caln Township.

On December 19, Caln Township received official notification from PennDOT that the previously planned closure and detour have been delayed indefinitely, see below communication from District 6 Sr. Manager Francis J. Hanney.

"Due to on-going concerns and the critical function of SR 0322 in this area the Department will not permit a detour of this roadway until the dismissal of School for the 2023 Summer vacation at minimum. Please consider the e-mail as our official direction in this regard. Additionally, the proposed detour route utilizing Bondsville Rd is under review at this time due to concerns with the conditions at certain locations which were impacted by Hurricane Ida. The Department is evaluating this now and will respond with some direction after our evaluation is complete. This direction may or may not impact the proposed detour and the use of Bondsville Rd in full or in part for this purpose. When we permit the proposed detour to proceed (current or as revised) there will be a need to provide significant advance notice of the detour with a 30 day notice to our press office and signing placed 14 days in advance on the roadway to notify motorists of the impending detour. This is a unique situation at a critical location and thus great care must be taken to ensure both safety, good planning and full transparency as its impacts are not insignificant. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding."

‼️MISSING BLACK FEMALE DOBERMAN‼️

My baby Stella went missing from my yard tonight😢 she is a black Doberman, her right ear tends to flop and she was wearing a red collar (electric fence type). She went missing around 9:45pm11/16. I’m sick to my stomach and spent the last 4 hours driving around trying to find her and I’m praying someone found her and brought her inside for the evening. Please call me if you see her, 717-201-1044. I live behind YMCA in Brandywine off of old spring road/Monacy. She is very sweet, lovable and not aggressive at all. Please share this post too! 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Hi there, I am looking for information on the old Stirling Mansion - after Emma Stirling's death it was known as Drumpelier Hospital then Chester Valley Hospital. I would love to know exactly where that mansion stood, photos and some more history on the house itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
