CALN TOWNSHIP POLICE DEPARTMENT SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY
The Caln Township Police Department uses social media as a method of effectively informing the public about department services, issues, investigations, recruitment and other relevant events. All persons named on department social media sites are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Department social media sites are designed and maintained to prevent unauthorized posting of content by the public. Public comment is welcome and encouraged, however, comments should be relevant and respectful of other participants. The department reserves the right to delete any public post or comment that contains:
• Profane, vulgar, and/or obscene content.
• Sexually suggestive or harassing content.
• Nudity in a participant’s profile picture.
• Threats of physical or bodily harm.
• Defamatory statements.
• Disparaging language or hate speech targeting an individual’s
race, color, religion, ancestry, age, gender, sexual orientation,
gender identity or expression, national origin, physical or
mental condition or disability.
• Commercial content promoting or soliciting services or
products.
• Content promoting political organizations.
• Name calling and/or personal attacks.
• Spam, such as same content posted repeatedly.
• Personally identifying, sensitive and/or private information.
• Content that is in violation of any federal, state or local law.
• Language or content that suggests or encourages illegal
activity.
• Content that reasonable compromises the safety or security of
law enforcement personnel or the public.
• Information that reasonably compromises the outcome of a
criminal or personnel investigation, and/or the proceedings of
public systems.
• Copyright or trademark infringement. Department social media sites are not monitored 24/7 and should not be used to contact the department to request emergency services or immediate response, or with questions, requests or concerns related to an open case. Opinions expressed by participants on department social media sites do not reflect an endorsement or opinion on the part of the police department. The Chief of Police reserves the right to ban a participant for multiple violations of this policy at any time and without prior notice.
