From the Thorndike Fire Department Auxiliary family:
Our hearts are completely broken as we process the devastating explosion and mass casualty incident at Robbins Lumber in Searsmont. Words cannot fully express our profound grief and the deep gratitude we hold for the incredible first responders who ran directly into danger. Please join us in lifting up our local heroes and neighbors during this incredibly dark time:
Honoring a Hero: We send our deepest, most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and brothers and sisters of Morrill Volunteer Firefighter Andrew Cross, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty while trying to protect others. Andrew was a kindhearted, hardworking 27-year-old, and his ultimate sacrifice will never, ever be forgotten.
Praying for the Injured: We are holding the at least 10 other individualsโincluding multiple firefighters who sustained severe injuriesโclosely in our prayers. We pray for the medical teams at Maine Medical Center and Massachusetts General Hospital who are fighting for their recovery.
Gratitude for Mutual Aid: Thank you to the crews from at least two dozen surrounding fire departments, EMS personnel, law enforcement, and emergency flight crews who rushed from all over the region into a highly chaotic, dangerous scene. Your bravery under unimaginable circumstances defines what it means to be a hero.
Standing with Robbins Lumber: Our thoughts are also with the Robbins family, their 115 employees, and the entire tight-knit Searsmont community as they navigate this painful catastrophe.Maine is a state where we take care of our own, and Waldo County defines community strength. To every firefighter, paramedic, and police officer who responded: we see you, we love you, and we stand with you today and in the difficult days ahead.
