The recent storm has knocked down several trees and power lines, leaving some Thornton residents without power. ComEd has been notified and is aware of the outages.
Please report outages directly to the appropriate utility company:

� PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT – NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN NEAR WOLCOTT SCHOOL 🚨

The Thornton Police Department would like to remind residents and motorists that a new traffic pattern will begin on Monday, August 3, 2026, near Wolcott School.

To improve traffic flow and enhance safety for students, parents, pedestrians, and motorists:

➡️ Hubbard Street and Wolcott Street will become ONE-WAY SOUTHBOUND ONLY
📍 The one-way restriction will apply between Marion Street and Margaret Street.

Drivers are asked to please:
✅ Pay attention to the new traffic signs and pavement markings
✅ Plan additional travel time during school drop-off and pick-up hours
✅ Follow all posted traffic directions and remain alert for children and pedestrians in the area

🚧🚓 HEAVY TRAFFIC ALERT – RAIL ROAD CAUTION 🚓🚧

****Update: No issues persist. Road is open. We still advise drivers to be cautious making their turns as always.****

The Thornton Police Department would like to advise residents the intersection at Margaret/Ridge and Derby has been reopened after closure but be cautious of the rail road crossing. The arms are not functioning properly. CSX is on scene and attempting repair.

Please avoid the area and seek alternate routes until repairs are completed.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as crews work to safely resolve this issue. Updates will be provided as they become available.

Please follow all posted signs and directions from emergency personnel.

Chief Arnold served the Village of Thornton with professionalism, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to public safety. Throughout his distinguished career, he led multiple agencies with honor, mentored countless officers, and made a lasting impact on the communities he served.

On behalf of the men and women of the Thornton Police Department, we extend our sincere appreciation for your years of dedicated service and leadership. Your contributions to the law enforcement profession and to the Village of Thornton will not be forgotten.
