Another exemplary demonstration of community spirit at Thornton’s Memorial Day Parade. We were deeply honored to participate in the day’s events to pay a heartfelt tribute to those who have served, as we honor and remember the courageous men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Their bravery, service, and selflessness will never be forgotten. On this Memorial Day, let us take a moment to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy because of those who gave everything to protect them.

Thornton’s annual awards ceremony was held to acknowledge the accomplishments of our members. Two members received promotions from Firefighter/Paramedic to Engineer/Paramedic, and a new probationary Firefighter/Paramedic was sworn in. This was followed by the presentation of multiple life-saving awards to various members, including the South Holland Professional Firefighters Association, for their assistance in a serious motor vehicle accident. All awards presented recognized the members significant contributions to achieving positive outcomes for critical patients. We take pride in having a team of dedicated members who consistently strive to deliver their best efforts in every task.

We would like to acknowledge the diligent efforts of former probationary FF/EMT Anthony Fuentes, who has successfully advanced to FF/PM. He has worked tirelessly to complete Medic class, earning the prestigious golden stethoscope for his class, and fulfilling his probationary period. Your proof that hard work pays off. Congratulations!!!

Please join us as we come together to honor the life and legacy of our late Deputy Fire Chief, Peter J. Bendinelli.

We will be holding a special renaming and dedication ceremony for our training center in his memory.

Chief Bendinelli dedicated his life to serving others. He led with strength, integrity, and heart. His commitment to the fire service and to this department helped shape who we are today. The lessons he taught, the standards he set, and the example he gave will continue to guide us for years to come.

Renaming the training center in his honor is a small way to recognize the lasting impact he had on our department and our community. Every firefighter who trains there will be reminded of his leadership, his dedication, and his passion for the job.

We hope you will join us for this meaningful and well deserved tribute as we celebrate his life and the legacy he leaves behind.
