This morning we took the opportunity to stand with our police to honor and remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, who made the ultimate sacrifice while answering the call.

25 years have passed, but the impact of that day continues to be felt across our country, our communities, and especially within the fire service. We honor the victims, their families, the survivors, and all those whose lives were forever changed. It becomes even more important that we continue to tell their stories, remember their sacrifices, and carry their legacy forward. May we never forget those we lost, those who ran toward danger to help others, and the strength shown in the days that followed.

We had the honor of helping shed some light on water safety. Our Village Treasurer Simone Jackson is part of helping put together this event. We were glad we could help contribute to the education on water safety.

Another exemplary demonstration of community spirit at Thornton’s Memorial Day Parade. We were deeply honored to participate in the day’s events to pay a heartfelt tribute to those who have served, as we honor and remember the courageous men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Their bravery, service, and selflessness will never be forgotten. On this Memorial Day, let us take a moment to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy because of those who gave everything to protect them.

Thornton’s annual awards ceremony was held to acknowledge the accomplishments of our members. Two members received promotions from Firefighter/Paramedic to Engineer/Paramedic, and a new probationary Firefighter/Paramedic was sworn in. This was followed by the presentation of multiple life-saving awards to various members, including the South Holland Professional Firefighters Association, for their assistance in a serious motor vehicle accident. All awards presented recognized the members significant contributions to achieving positive outcomes for critical patients. We take pride in having a team of dedicated members who consistently strive to deliver their best efforts in every task.
