đźš‘ HAPPY EMS WEEK đźš‘

May 19-25 marks the 50th anniversary of EMS Week. This year’s theme is about honoring the past. EMS is all about being present and acting in the moment, but reflecting on the past allows us to apply important lessons from EMS’s earliest days to improve modern procedures and standards of care.

May 19th: Health, Wellness, and Resilience Day
May 20th: Education Day
May 21st: EMS Safety Day
May 22nd: EMS for Children Day
May 23rd: Save-A-Life Day (& Stop the Bleed Day)
May 24th: EMS Recognition Day
May 25th: EMS Remembrance Day

We are so proud of our dedicated volunteers who work around the clock to serve our community, and who never hesitate to answer the call. We are also honored to work alongside compassionate, driven colleagues from other agencies who provide essential services to their communities. Happy EMS week to all who keep the system running, from providers in the field, to those in the classroom training the next class of first responders, to those behind the scenes! ❤️‍🩹

Surviving Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) depends on the quick actions of people nearby who recognize the emergency and call 911, begin CPR and use an AED along with the actions of skilled EMS providers, hospital and rehabilitation center staff. This series of quick actions is known as the chain of survival.

Out of Hospital Sudden Cardiac Arrest affects 1,000 people each day and recently 1 of those 1,000 individuals was a resident of our community.

On Thursday, June 13 the heroic actions of three Town of Mount Pleasant lifeguards, bystanders, Pleasantville Police Officers, the staff/Emergency Medical Technicians of Pleasantville Ambulance, and a paramedic from Westchester EMS highlight the chain of survival in action. Just before 7:27 AM a town resident was out for a run when he suddenly collapsed. The three lifeguards (who were participating in a team practice) immediately recognized the event as a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) - initiated CPR and applied an AED. Just two minutes later PVAC/WEMS arrived on the scene and began advanced lifesaving care. The patient was transported to Westchester Medical Center where he is currently recovering.

We are proud to serve a community where these partnerships and cooperative actions continue to lead to positive patient outcomes.

Quick bystander action, an ambulance response of 2 minutes (which is 7 minutes and 30 seconds less than the 9 minute 30 second national average) and the skilled actions of our providers clearly illustrate our commitment to provide the best possible care to our community and we vow to maintain that commitment with your support.
