We are proud to announce that Sequoia Middle School (grades 6-8) and Newbury Park High School (grades 9-10) have officially achieved authorization for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP)! This significant accomplishment marks the culmination of a rigorous, multi-year process of planning, implementation, evaluation, and dedication to meeting the high standards of the International Baccalaureate Organization. With this achievement, Conejo Valley Unified School District becomes the first school district in Ventura County to offer a complete TK–12 IB continuum. Cypress joined the California Association of IB World Schools last year and had the honor of nominating a student for the award “CAWS Student of the Year”.

This year, Norah was nominated and selected!

She has been a student at Cypress for 7 years and has approached her learning at school with curiosity and compassion.

For the IB Exhibition she explored the history and injustices of Iranian Women. Her passion for justice and her desire to honor her family led her to do this work. She interviewed her grandmother and wrote a letter that was published in the Acorn. Parts of the interview were shared on CubTV.

When given agency, she has chosen to challenge inequality and advocate for human rights and equity. For these reasons she has been chosen as the 2025-2026 California Association of IB World Schools Student of the Year for Cypress Elementary.

Cypress is grateful to have walked this part of the journey with you and we look forward to seeing you continue to impact the world.
