At LSSSC, we believe education is more than knowledge — it’s opportunity. Too many students face barriers like finances, limited resources, or being the first in their family to pursue higher education.

Norma came to LSSSC during one of the most difficult seasons of her life. A senior with no place to call home, she had recently been displaced from her previous apartment of 10 years and found herself without shelter or a caring community. On top of that, she was bravely fighting a cancer diagnosis and dealing with a painful injury that made it impossible for her to work.

Despite these overwhelming challenges, Norma never gave up hope. When she connected with our team at LSSSC, our case manager immediately began working with her to assess her needs and connect her with the right homeless services. Together, they developed a plan that focused on finding safe, stable housing and restoring a sense of dignity and comfort.

Within weeks, Norma was able to move into a senior apartment that she now calls home. With the help of LSSSC, she was not only housed but also provided with household essentials to make her new space feel warm and welcoming. It was the fresh start she had longed for.

Norma’s apartment has become a true sanctuary. She often shares how much she loves her new space, how peaceful it feels, how it’s brought stability back into her life. Having a place of her own that she can afford has given her the foundation she needed to continue healing, physically and emotionally.

Perhaps most remarkably, Norma’s cancer is now in remission. With stable housing, proper care, and a supportive community behind her, she is thriving. Her story is a powerful reminder of how a small amount of compassion and LSSSC’s comprehensive services can help transform lives.
