🚩 RED FLAG WARNING EXTENDED‼️

The Red Flag Warning has now been expanded to include additional areas across Central California as dangerous fire weather conditions continue through the weekend.

Gusty winds, critically low humidity, and dry vegetation could cause any new fire to spread rapidly, especially in grass and brush.

Avoid anything that could spark a fire, and prepare now in case conditions worsen.

News Release: Fire management staff plan to conduct prescribed burning in the Cedar Grove area of Kings Canyon National Park beginning on April 16. Crews expect to broadcast burn about 92 acres on the valley floor. This work builds on 2025 fuels reduction efforts that treated 261 acres and areas affected by the 2024 Happy Fire.

Prescribed fire is a proactive tool and one of the most effective ways to reduce wildfire risk. Regular, low‑ to moderate‑intensity burns mimic natural fire behavior and help reduce flammable vegetation and overgrowth.

“Pre‑season fuel reduction is an integral part of fire management for the parks. Getting into priority areas during favorable conditions allows crews to work safely and effectively,” said Ross Garlapow, fuels technician.

A seasonal public closure remains in place in Cedar Grove until April 24, allowing the prescribed burn to occur without impacting visitors. While prescribed burns produce significantly less smoke than wildfires, some people may still be sensitive to smoke and should monitor air quality when visiting areas with prescribed burning.

TCSO Long-Time Volunteer Dies in Crash, Wife Hurt

Sheriff Boudreaux regrets to announce the death of long-time serving Volunteer in Patrol Jack Terrell, following a head-on crash this morning on Highway 190 in the Springville area.

His wife, and fellow VIP, Lucinda, was seriously hurt and taken to a nearby hospital. She’s in critical, but stable condition.

Jack and Cindy have served as VIPs in the Mountain communities since 2005. They also served on the Sheriff’s Search & Rescue Team in the past with their two chocolate-colored Labradors.

In 2023, Sheriff Boudreaux named Jack Volunteer of the Year. Lucinda received the same award the following year.

Sheriff Boudreaux and the men and women of the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office offer deepest sympathies and pray for Cindy’s recovery.
