The Thurmont Police Department would like to express our sincere appreciation to the National Police Dog Foundation for their generous support of our K9 Unit.

In mid-July, K9 Majo suffered a torn cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) in his left knee, an injury that required surgery to repair and stabilize the joint and give him the best opportunity to safely return to duty.

Through its Veterinary Assistance Program, the National Police Dog Foundation funded the entire $5,631.26 cost of Majo’s surgery.

As a smaller law enforcement agency, unexpected expenses of this size can be difficult to plan and budget for. Assistance programs like this provide an invaluable resource, allowing agencies like ours to ensure our K9 partners receive the specialized veterinary care they need without the unexpected expense placing a significant strain on department resources.

Majo underwent left stifle arthroscopy and TPLO stabilization surgery during the first week of August and is recovering well. His recovery remains on track, and we look forward to having him back on duty in the coming months.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. John Waterhouse, BVSc, CCRP, the Veterinary Medical Grant Committee, and the National Police Dog Foundation for making this assistance possible. We are incredibly grateful for their commitment to supporting law enforcement K9s and the agencies that rely on them.

If you would like to support the National Police Dog Foundation and help them continue providing assistance to K9 teams across the country, donations can be made here:

Thank you to the National Police Dog Foundation for being there when K9 Majo needed it most. 💙🐾
