On Tuesday August 1st , from 4-7 pm, the Town of Tiburon and City of Belvedere will join forces and host a National Night Out community celebration at Zelinsky Park, behind the Belvedere Tiburon Library. The event, celebrating it’s 40th year nationwide, is a chance for neighbors, community, and first responders to all come together and get to know one another, building a stronger and safer community.

This year the event will feature live music, free tacos, a bounce house, and face painting for kids of all ages. First responders from The Tiburon Police Department, Belvedere Police Department, The Tiburon Fire Protection District and the Southern Marin Fire Department will be in attendance with emergency vehicles on display and first responder therapy dogs will be there for pets and puppy kisses. Live music will be provided by Andrew Carriere and Friends – a blend of Cajun and Creole music – and is sure to be a lot of fun. We encourage everyone to invite their friends and neighbors and come down and join us for this free community event!

The Tiburon Police Department reminds you to microchip your dog. This adorable pup escaped from his home without his collar and tags and after walking over a mile and then a brief car ride with a stranger, found his way to the Police Station. Thanks to him being chipped, we were able to find his humans and get him safely home! Thanks for the visit Skippy!

On January 22, 2023, at approximately 1458 hours, Tiburon Police Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Tiburon Blvd and San Rafael avenue for two subjects holding down a suspect who pulled a knife out following a road rage incident.

The road rage incident occurred at Tiburon Blvd at Trestle Glen when the suspect, driving a Prius, believed the Victim who was riding a bicycle, hit his vehicle with his hand. The bicyclist turned into Blackies Pasture and was riding down the Old Rail Trail when the suspect driving in his Prius stopped at the intersection of Tiburon Blvd and San Rafael Avenue, got out of his vehicle and approached the victim on his bicycle. The suspect had a knife in his hand as he approached the victim and because the victim feared being stabbed he grabbed the suspect and knocked him to the ground.

A witness in the area who heard the victim calling for help and saw the fight, assisted the victim in subduing the suspect and holding him down until police arrived and took the suspect, Gennady Yeltchey age 70, into custody.

Because of the suspect’s age, medical history and injuries incurred when he had been knocked to the ground by the victim, the Tiburon Fire Protection District transported the suspect to Marin General Hospital for a medical checkout and clearance before being booked in the Marin County Jail on charges of 245 (A)(1) PC (assault with a deadly weapon) and 422 PC (criminal threats)

Please practice patience on the roads and do not engage in other drivers’ frustration or rage. You never know if a weapon is involved or how far an incident may escalate. If you experience road rage, stay in your vehicle and call the police at (415) 789-2800 to make contact with the other driver.
