Our speakers for the August meeting were Hannah Watson, Farm Manager at the Seeds of Hope Farm/Franciscan Earth Literacy Center (FELC) and Donna Frank, FELC Board of Trustees President.
They discussed the 2025 grant, from TWIA that Seeds of Hope Farm received, and several individuals who benefitted from it. Also, they gave an update on their 2026 programs and scholarships centered around the farm and environmental education center.
The Seeds of Hope Farm offers Community Garden Plots in three different sizes between May-October where gardeners have access to garden tools, water, cardboard sheets to use for w**d barrier and chemical-free alternatives for common pests such as insects and deer. Scholarships for garden plots are available thanks to TWIA and other donors.
The farm employees developmentally disabled adults who help grown plants from seeds during the winter months, as well as, flowers that are grown in the greenhouse and sold in April. (The greenhouse also has hydroponics and microgreens year round.) These individuals also help with the annual plant sale, assist with maintaining the garden area and work at the local Farmer’s Market in downtown Tiffin.
Seeds of Hope Farm also has chickens that produce fresh eggs daily, grow and sell a variety of their homegrown mushrooms and sell their own honey that was recently harvested.
The farm, located on the St. Francis Campus, is open daily from dawn until dusk. During the winter months, you can continue to purchase items inside the greenhouse/building.
