​On this day, we reflect on the historic moment of June 19, 1865, when freedom was finally announced to the last enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Today is the day, please do not forget to get out and vote. Don't be one of those people that sits back and wait to see what happens just to complain about what you didn't help to accomplish. Voting is a privilege that you should be excited to have, just like you were with driving.

So go vote today. Don't complain about what the government is doing if you are not going to vote. If you are not registered to vote, shame on you! It's your duty as an American citizen.

The hardest part of the job is saying "no." 💔

​Have you ever had to tell a client "no" when you knew they were already hurting? It’s one of the toughest positions to be in as a small business owner.

​I recently received a call from a regular client. They needed a Healthcare Power of Attorney (POA) notarized for a family member in the ICU. My heart immediately went out to them, but as we talked through the details, two major roadblocks emerged:

​● Jurisdiction: As a South Carolina Notary Public, I am legally forbidden from notarizing documents outside of the state.
​● Mental Capacity: Because the family member was sedated, they wouldn't be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the document they were signing—a vital requirement for any legal notarization.

​Hearing the heartbreak in my client’s voice as I explained why I couldn't help left me in tears. It’s a sobering reminder of why having these documents in place before a crisis happens is so critical. My thoughts are with this family, and I truly hope the hospital’s patient advocate can help them find a path forward.

​Stay prepared, friends. It makes all the difference.
