Today July 7th, 2026, Phone Lines are down for Dewey County Sheriffs Office. I think they are down for majority of Timber Lake.

If you have an emergency call 911, or non-emergency contact C.R.S.T. Tribal Police at 605-964-2155 or Mobridge Police at 605-845-5000.

There have been sporadic issues with phones in Timber Lake area past couple days.

I was contacted by a Perkins County Sheriffs Deputy who informed me that they had a person come in who told them she had been called from their (Perkins County Sheriffs) office number and told she owed a lot of money, and if she didn't send money to a certain account they were going to come after her.

Phone Scams are becoming more sophisticated.

Law Enforcement are not going to call you or text you demanding money.

Use your head and be careful.

Regarding recent events... I just wanted to share this information.

There are already Foreign Nationals in our area, we have people working for local ranchers who are from other countries, there are truck companies who hire people who are not US Citizens who travel into or through our area. There are others who drift through using other means. Most are just trying to make a living and cause no trouble. Some commit crimes and have interaction with Law Enforcement.

The Sheriffs have jurisdiction over these parties. We are responsible for providing Public Safety on these matters.
Knowing what resources are available and how they work are crucial to responding and handling calls involving these people.
I want to emphasize that there are no plans nor were there ever any discussions about I.C.E. Conducting any operations in our area.
I have spoken with CRST Law Enforcement (Acting Chief D, Farlee) and CRST Attorney General (Kimberly Craven) concerning these matters. I was asked by AG Kim Craven to remove the post I had on the Dewey County Sheriffs page.

The reason for putting the information out at all was for transparency. I and Sheriff Cudmore discussed this prior to releasing any information. Not to hide anything. If this caused any trouble that was not our intention.
