Baltimore Hunger Project

Baltimore Hunger Project Baltimore Hunger Project, a 501(c)3, removes the barrier to learning by providing food and resources to food insecure children in our community.

Inspired by the story of an organization in Florida that provides weekend nutrition packages to elementary school children, we are focusing on Baltimore City and County elementary schools with a high percentage of students who qualify for FARM by discreetly providing them with packages full of a weekend's worth of food. We strongly believe improved nutrition on the weekends enables "at-risk" children to be better prepared to participate in their education.

As we wrap up Baltimore Hunger Project’s Teen Service Council, we’re celebrating a remarkable group of young leaders who spent the past 10 months serving their community, learning, growing, and making a difference.

Through hands-on service and meaningful conversations, they learned the importance of paying attention, showing empathy, and taking action. They leave with a deeper understanding of their community, confidence in their ability to create change, and the knowledge that you are never too young to make an impact.

As the school year begins to wind down, many children are counting down to summer break with excitement. But for children facing food insecurity, summer can also bring uncertainty.

For many students, breakfast and lunch at school are meals they can count on each day. When school doors close for the summer, that reliable access to food often disappears.

Thankfully, resources do exist. Free summer meal programs are available across Baltimore through school systems and community sites, and Maryland families may also qualify for SUN Bucks to help purchase groceries during summer break.

What other summer resources do you know of for families? Summer camps with meals? Food pantries? Community programs? Drop them in the comments so Baltimore Hunger Project can help build a resource list together.

Hunger doesn’t take a summer vacation!

One of our very best partnerships is with McDonogh School and Greatest Good McDonogh.

Today, pre-first students learned about food insecurity and then created Notes of Encouragement to tuck inside our weekend food bags. These simple messages remind children facing food insecurity that someone is thinking about them and cheering them on.

Kids helping kids is a beautiful thing. Thank you, McDonogh and Greatest Good McDonogh for helping raise a generation that leads with kindness and compassion.

PLEASE SHARE: Bring the Cereal. Hold the Milk.

We’re collecting cereal boxes to go home with Baltimore Hunger Project students this summer because a good morning starts with breakfast, not a drive to the local pantry.

Any brand. Any flavor. Sealed box. That’s it.

Drop off by May 31st at 9596 Deereco Road, 21093.

Tag someone who has a box of Cheerios they’re not using. 👇

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Baltimore Hunger Project. 💐

This week, every child we support received a special Mother’s Day craft kit — a paper bouquet and card they could create and personalize for someone they love.

For many families, moments like these matter just as much as the food. They create connection, joy, and the chance for a child to say “thank you” in their own special way.

A heartfelt thank you to a very special donor who made this project possible for all 2,600 children we serve. Small moments like this can mean so much to families.

Wishing a wonderful Mother’s Day to all the moms, grandmothers, caregivers, and loved ones in our community. 🌸

New friends. Old friends.

Thank you to Natalie Litz Bissonnette and Flowers & Fancies for hosting a great night. It was simple, welcoming, and a chance to bring people into the Baltimore Hunger Project community in a meaningful way.

Because this work grows through relationships — one conversation, one introduction, one new connection at a time.

Grateful to everyone who came out and helped expand the circle 💐🌸🌺

There’s something really meaningful about this kind of full-circle moment.

The girls from Oldfields School visited North Oaks, where they spent time with residents packing snack bags and writing notes of encouragement together—then delivered everything to Baltimore Hunger Project.

Different generations, one shared purpose.

Those snack bags will help fill weekend hunger gaps, and those handwritten notes will remind our children that they are seen, supported, and cared for.

We’re proud to partner with because something as simple as flowers can help make a real difference 💛

Hunger is often an invisible barrier for students. While many receive meals during the week, weekends can leave them without reliable access to food. Baltimore Hunger Project helps bridge that gap - providing weekend food packs to over 2,600 children across 66 local schools, all delivered with care, dignity, and discretion.

When you purchase this signature arrangement, 20% goes directly to BHP, helping ensure more children return to school nourished, focused, and ready to thrive.

Send something beautiful. Give something meaningful.
