On behalf of the Monmouth County Executive Committee, The American Legion, Department of New Jersey, Commander William “Bill” Schultz proudly extends our heartfelt congratulations to Lisa Natale of Monmouth County on her election as President of the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of New Jersey, for the 2026–2027 term.

What a tremendous honor for Lisa, her family, her Unit, Monmouth County, and the entire Department of New Jersey!

Lisa’s election is a testament to the dedication, leadership, character, and commitment she has demonstrated throughout her service to the American Legion Auxiliary and to our veterans, military families, and communities.

To see one of our own from Monmouth County rise to the highest leadership position within the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of New Jersey, is a moment of tremendous pride for all of us.

Lisa has shown time and again that true leadership isn’t about a title. It is about showing up, rolling up your sleeves, listening to others, building relationships, and getting the job done. Her willingness to serve, her passion for the mission of the Auxiliary, and her commitment to the principles of the American Legion Family have earned her the respect and confidence of her fellow members.

As Department President, Lisa will have the opportunity to lead an organization whose members make an extraordinary difference every day through their support of Veterans, active-duty military personnel, their families, children and youth, and communities throughout New Jersey.

🇺🇸 CONGRATULATIONS, DOREEN GALLAGHER! 🇺🇸

On behalf of the Monmouth County Executive Committee, The American Legion, Department of New Jersey, Commander William “Bill” Schultz extends our heartfelt congratulations to Doreen Gallagher on her election as the 2026–2027 American Legion Auxiliary National Vice President for the Eastern Division.

This is an extraordinary honor and a well-deserved recognition of Doreen’s dedication, leadership, commitment, and tireless service to The American Legion Family.

Her election to this prestigious national leadership position is not only a tremendous personal achievement, but also a source of great pride for the Department of New Jersey and the entire Monmouth County American Legion Family.

Doreen has demonstrated the qualities that define exceptional American Legion Family leadership: integrity, compassion, dedication to our veterans, devotion to our military families, and an unwavering commitment to serving our communities. Her willingness to step forward, accept responsibility, and lead by example has made a lasting difference to those fortunate enough to work alongside her.

As National Vice President for the Eastern Division, Doreen will have the opportunity to represent and serve Auxiliary members across a broad region of our nation. Please share this information with your Post, Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion, and Riders.

Auxiliary units usually get their own permits, but many events are still held on Legion property. Sons and Riders usually get their permits through the Post, so they also need to know these rules.

Liquor License Reminder

The new Legion year and the new ABC year have started.

All liquor licenses renew every year on July 1. By now, your Post liquor license should already be renewed.

If your Post has new officers, and those officers are supposed to be listed on the liquor license, you must update the license. This is done by submitting the 12-page application to your city, township, or borough.

You must also update the license if you changed or added things such as:

Jukebox provider

ATM provider

NJ Lottery machine

Other listed machines or vendors

A copy of the 12-page license application must be kept at the licensed premises.

Also check your E-141 employee form. If your new officers are not listed, that form may need to be updated too.

Games of Chance Reminder

Any raffle or game of chance needs a permit. This includes:

Raffles

50/50s

Duck races

Casino nights

Similar fundraising games

For 50/50s, remember this important rule:

You cannot pay out more than 50% of the money collected from ticket sales.

If there is more than one winner, list prizes by percentage, not just dollar amount.

Example:

1st prize: 25% of ticket sales

2nd prize: 15% of ticket sales

3rd prize: 10% of ticket sales

Total payout must equal 50%.

You may also show a dollar amount if all tickets are sold, but the percentage must be listed next to it.

Advertising Rules

If you advertise a raffle or 50/50, the advertisement must include all required information, including:

Name of the licensed organization

Organization identification number

Raffle license number from the municipality

Date, time, and full street address where prizes will be awarded

Description of the prizes

Retail value of the prizes

Purpose of the raffle proceeds

Ticket price

Statement that no one under 18 may participate, if cash is a prize

Gambling help statement: “If gambling is a problem for you or someone in your family, dial 1-800-GAMBLER.”

Because there is so much required information, it may be better not to advertise the 50/50 on an event flyer.

For example, if you are holding a BBQ and also having a 50/50, people are attending the BBQ. The flyer does not have to mention the 50/50. This avoids having to fit all the required raffle information on the flyer.

Important Warning

Games of Chance officials have reportedly been visiting Posts after seeing advertisements, not just after complaints.

So make sure you have the proper permits before holding or advertising any raffle, 50/50, duck race, casino night, or similar event.

**Scam Alert for Veterans**

A fake “Veterans Savings Program” postcard is being mailed to Veterans in several states. It claims Veterans and spouses may qualify for up to $185/month in extra VA benefits, including CHAMPVA, TRICARE, and dental coverage.

This is not a VA program.

The postcard may look official and may tell you to call within 5 days. Scammers use pressure like this to get personal information such as Social Security numbers, dates of birth, or financial details.

Protect yourself:

Do not call the number on the postcard.

Do not share personal or financial information with unverified contacts.

Be careful with urgent requests from people you do not know.

If something seems suspicious, contact VA directly at 1-800-MyVA411 (1-800-698-2411).

Please share this with Veterans, spouses, caregivers, and family members.
