The Arc of Monmouth

The Arc of Monmouth The Arc of Monmouth is a non-profit agency committed to improving the lives of over 1,600 Monmouth C That’s why we’re here. And The Arc was born.
(16)

Many families of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) can feel alone, lacking the necessary resources to help their loved ones enjoy fulfilling lives in the community. The Arc of Monmouth is a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency with a mission to improve the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and their families through comprehensive servi

ces, advocacy, community education, and collaboration with our community partners. Before The Arc was founded in 1950, virtually no programs or activities existed to care for young adults with I/DD and allow them to enjoy fulfilling lives in their communities. So, parents and concerned individuals joined together to advocate for their children to have full and independent lives, building a network to support the families. Today our dedicated staff and volunteers provide every support service imaginable so people with I/DD can live and thrive in their community. We have more than 20 locations throughout Monmouth County serving people in their communities. Some of the life-changing services we offer include the following:

- Adult Services
- Health Services
- Work Opportunity Center
- Recreation
- Residential Services
- Independent Living Program
- College Experience
- The Achievement Zone
- Advocacy and Resources

At The Arc of Monmouth, we are always ready to support and respond to emotional and physical needs, whatever they may be. Whether it’s recreational events, fundraising events, or direct care, our services require the tireless dedication of people of all ages and abilities willing to donate their time to our cause. Through The Arc of Monmouth, lives are transformed. Finally, individuals with I/DD can experience what it's like to be a part of a community, growing and learning new skills that equip them for their future. And families can feel confident their loved ones are set up for success. Of course, we can only do our work with generous donors and volunteers like you. As we conclude November, we want to highlight a few very important events that took place in honor of National Family Caregivers Month. During the month, we had the wonderful opportunity to screen the Academy Award, BAFTA, and IFTA winning short film by Floodlight Pictures, An Irish Goodbye, starring lead actor, James Martin. James Martin is the first actor with Down Syndrome to star in an Oscar-Winning film. The film was enjoyed by many of our own family caregivers, friends and staff. 💞

We also had the great honor of hosting a reception with Deputy Commissioner Kaylee McGuire and Assistant Commissioner Jonathan Seifried from the New Jersey Department of Human Services. Representatives from The Arc of New Jersey’s Family Advisory Committee spoke as did Tom Baffuto, Executive Director of The Arc of New Jersey. This reception was a true testament to the commitment, advocacy, and support that is fought for daily by our state and local representatives to support not only the family caregivers but also those receiving care. Deputy Commissioner McGuire said it perfectly when she quoted First Lady Rosalynn Carter’s famous words “There are only four kinds of people in the world – those that have been caregivers, those that are caregivers, those who will be caregivers, and those who will need caregivers”. Thank you to all the family caregivers. We are all in this together. 🙌

🍂Our participants, who are more like family, experienced a wonderful day filled with delicious food, camaraderie, and some pretty fun hats. Thanks to the incredible staff who contributed dishes, turning the gathering into a potluck of warmth and community!

🦃 A special shoutout to Manager Danielle's dad and stepmom, who volunteered their time to fry three big turkeys, making the day even more memorable! 🌟
Happy Thanksgiving from The Arc of Monmouth!

Today begins National Family Caregivers Month. This month is dedicated to putting a spotlight on acknowledging and honoring families who are often caregiving “around the clock”. We are hosting a special event to support and promote this very important recognition on Wednesday, November 15th from 6pm to 8pm at The Arc Center.

We will be screening the Academy Award, BAFTA, and IFTA-winning short film, An Irish Goodbye, along with a recorded Q&A session with lead actor James Martin. James Martin is a multi-award-winning actor with Down Syndrome from Belfast, Northern Ireland. The Arc partnered with Floodlight Pictures to have access to an internal steaming license, and we look forward to sharing this film with you. Here is a preview of the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0YVueR5ho0&t=2s

We have limited space so if you would like to attend please let Lisa Roser know as soon as possible. We extend this invitation to you and your loved ones.

Looking forward to seeing you then.
Regards,
Bob

On Monday, we had the opportunity to welcome Monmouth County Commissioner Susan Kiley, to our new Campus Parkway Adult Day Program Facility. Commissioner Kiley got to hear about the programs and enhancements that we have been able to implement since moving to this new location. She had the opportunity to meet and discuss with staff, including our in-house therapists and nurse, the important work they do every day. During the visit, Commissioner Kiley also was able to meet and engage with many of our participants. Thank you, Commissioner Kiley, and all of the Monmouth County Commissioners, for your continued support to those with I/DD and The Arc of Monmouth.

About The Arc of Monmouth

The Arc of Monmouth started in 1949 when a group of parents came together to better support their children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) when no services existed. They ran an ad in the local newspaper announcing a meeting at the Red Bank Borough Hall. An association emerged from that meeting and has evolved into a large and growing agency: The Arc of Monmouth.

Today, The Arc of Monmouth provides services and supports to more than 1,600 individuals with I/DD throughout Monmouth County. Living with an intellectual/developmental disability often means being confronted every day with struggles. The Arc of Monmouth chooses to focus on individuals’ abilities. We provide an array of unique programs, services and supports to help overcome barriers and to empower individuals with I/DD to embrace opportunity and become involved in their community. The Arc of Monmouth offers employment, vocational, and educational services, adult training, residential supports, behavioral health care, and an abundance of enriching recreational activities.

The Arc of Monmouth is guided by its core principles: Respect, Kindness, Positive Attitude, Trustworthiness, and Conscientiousness. We strive to always maintain these values as we achieve our mission.
