Help Us Preserve the History of the Tioga Volunteer Fire Department
The history of the Tioga Volunteer Fire Department is more than old photographs, fire trucks, and emergency calls it is the story of the people who gave their time, made sacrifices, and answered the call to protect our community.

Many of these stories have been passed down through conversations, but if we do not begin documenting them now, important parts of our department’s history may be lost. We believe it is long past time to bring these memories together and preserve the history that built our department into what it is today.

Our goal is to create a book documenting the history of the Tioga Volunteer Fire Department. We are asking for stories, photographs, newspaper clippings, documents, and memories from the department’s past and present. If possible, please include names, approximate dates, and any other information that may help us properly document each submission.

We are also working to create the most complete list possible of every person who has ever served as a member of the Tioga Volunteer Fire Department.

We want to recognize ALL members past and present who helped build, serve, and shape this department. As names are submitted and verified, we will post the developing list on the History section of our website (www.tiogafire.com). We hope the community will review it and help us identify anyone who may be missing.

Please share this post, especially with former members and the families of those who served before us. Every name, photograph, and story matters. Preserving this history is one way we can honor their service and ensure their contributions are remembered by future generations.

At approximately 8:40 a.m. today, Tioga Volunteer Fire/EMS and Allegiance Mobile Health were dispatched to a major motor vehicle accident on FM 121.

Because of the winding stretch of FM 121 between Tioga and Gunter, Tioga Fire and Gunter Volunteer Fire & Rescue have an automatic mutual aid agreement in place. This allows one department to approach from the east and the other from the west, improving scene access, patient care, and responder safety.

While en route, Allegiance EMS 5153 requested additional ambulances after reports of multiple injured patients. Whitesboro Fire Department Med 52, Pilot Point Fire Department , and later Celina Fire Department responded with additional ambulances. Two air ambulances, PHI Air Medical McKinney and CareFlite, were also dispatched to assist with patient transport.

Also assisting on scene were Texas Department of Public Safety, Tioga Police Department, Gunter Police Department, and Franks towing plus.

As crews managed the incident, Tioga Fire was also dispatched to two additional calls: a medical call to assist Gunter and a fire alarm in the City of Tioga.Tioga fire called for mutual aid from Collinsville Fire Department and Pilot Point Fire Department. Thanks to the teamwork of all responding agencies, both calls were handled without interruption.

At approximately 12:40 p.m., command was terminated, FM 121 was reopened to traffic, and all units cleared the scene after nearly four hours of coordinated operations.

We would like to thank everyone for their patience while emergency crews worked the scene during the lengthy FM 121 closure.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to Grayson County Dispatch for coordinating a complex incident involving multiple agencies and resources. Thank you to every department and agency that responded and worked together to provide the best possible care for those involved.

A very special thank you goes to Gunter Fire Rescue. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a strong partnership with our neighbors. Time and time again, our departments work seamlessly as one team, focused on serving our communities and supporting one another. We are grateful for your professionalism, dedication, and friendship. Partnerships like this make mutual aid so successful, and we’re proud to stand alongside Gunter Fire Rescue whenever our communities need us.

Please keep everyone involved in today’s accident in your thoughts and prayers, including the patients, their families, and all of the first responders who answered the call.

Today we celebrate not only another year in your lives, but also your dedication, leadership, and countless hours of service to the citizens of Tioga. Your commitment to protecting our community and serving others does not go unnoticed, and we are grateful to have you both as part of our department.

On behalf of every member of the Tioga Volunteer Fire Department, I want to say what an incredible honor it was to have Edna Hilliard serve as the Grand Marshal for our 2026 Tioga 4th of July Parade on her famous tractor.

Edna is more than a familiar face in our community; she is a symbol of the kindness, generosity, and hometown spirit that makes Tioga such a special place to call home. Her love for this community has been evident for many years. It was only fitting that she lead this year's parade as we celebrated our nation's independence together.

Watching her proudly ride through town, surrounded by friends, neighbors, and generations of families, reminded all of us what community is truly about. People like Edna are the foundation of small town America. They inspire us, bring us together, and remind us why we are proud to serve this community.

Edna, thank you for allowing us the privilege of recognizing you. It was an honor to celebrate you. We are grateful for everything you have done, and continue to do, for the citizens of Tioga.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping make this year's celebration one that we will never forget.
