Charleston Falls is located on Ross Road near the Park District education/program headquarters. Sunset times can be found on the Park Hours page. Charleston Falls Preserve is the most visited nature park in Miami County with over 216 acres of prairie and forests. The most unusual feature of this preserve is the waterfall. Originating from small underground springs several miles to the east, the st

ream creating the falls plummets 37 feet on its meandering journey to the Great Miami River, one mile to the west. Flowing over rock strata that are also found in New York State and Canada, the falls can rightly be called a “Miniature Niagara.”

Uncommon plants such as wild columbine, walking fern, purple cliff break and rock honeysuckle grace the limestone faces of the surrounding gorge. In harmony with the natural setting, land management is geared toward maintaining a diversity of plant and animal life. Nearly two miles of trails pass through varied habitats such as Redbud Valley and the Thorny Badlands, offering explosions of color and varieties of scenic wonder. A small pond, a planted tall grass prairie and an observation tower add to the interest in the remaining portions of the Preserve. You are encouraged to use the pathways provided to broaden your experience and to help protect this unique natural site by obeying the rules of the Preserve.

Charleston Falls Preserve has a lovely waterfall and 3 1/2 miles of trails. Fairly easy trails for the most part… just lots of stairs by the falls. But, this photo was taken from the observation area up top.
Pet friendly trails.

With recent concerns, we want to remind everyone that there is no p**p fairy! Part of having a pet is the responsibility of cleaning up after them... this includes in your parks. People come to exercise or relax and use the trails daily, we all appreciate a clean trail. Pet waste can transmit disease and due to the foods domesticated animals eat, the waste they produce does not break down like animal f***s in the wild. Please if you bring pets, clean up after them!

Nobody wants to be a victim of crime, but if you leave your purse, computer, tools or other valuable items in your auto, you’re increasing the risk that you will become a theft-from-vehicle victim.

Police report that most thefts from vehicles are the result of people leaving their car doors unlocked or leaving items of value in the car where would-be thieves can easily spot them. The message-if thieves can see it, they will steal it.

By simply locking the doors of your vehicle and by taking valuable items with you or hiding them in a locked trunk, you can dramatically reduce the risk of being a crime victim.
