In the Missouri Department of Corrections, we're rolling up our sleeves to help the American Red Cross during the current blood crisis. Recent blood drives at facilities such as Crossroads Correctional Center (CRCC), Tipton Correctional Center (TCC) and Boonville Correctional Center (BCC) have helped to address the shortage in our communities, and Jefferson City area staff are ready to give blood at the State Employees Blood Drive Aug. 13-14 in the Truman Building.
Nationwide, blood donations have fallen to a four-year summer low. Extreme heat, poor air quality and widespread foodborne illnesses are contributing to lower donor turnout this summer, straining the nation’s blood supply.
