The City of Tipton Police Department is currently staffed by Chief Jeff Stout, twelve full-time officers, one part-time officer, two reserve officers, and one K-9. Our staff also includes a Public Safety Admini

Lateral Officers

Active Tier 1 certified officers with 3+ years of experience may apply through Tipton PD’s Lateral Entry Program.
No written or physical test required.

New Officer Requirements

Applicants must:
* Be 21–40 years old at appointment
* Hold a high school diploma or GED
* Possess a valid driver’s license
* Be a U.S. citizen
* Have no felony or domestic‑violence‑related convictions
* Successfully complete all required testing

LATERAL OFFICERS

Tipton PD offers a Lateral Entry Program for active Tier 1 certified officers with at least three (3) years of law enforcement experience.

Lateral officers are not required to complete the written or physical ability test. A completed application must still be submitted by September 19, 2026.

NEW OFFICER REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must:

•Be at least 21 years of age and not older than 40 years of age at the time of appointment.
•Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
•Possess a valid driver's license.
•Be a United States citizen.
•Have no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving domestic violence.
•Successfully complete the required written, physical, background, psychological, and other pre-employment testing.

Last May, D.A.R.E. Instructors from the Tipton Police Department and the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office had the honor of celebrating with 5th grade students from Tipton Elementary School for their completion of the D.A.R.E. program. Students were treated to a pizza party, and a couple K9 demonstrations as part of a graduation ceremony.

The D.A.R.E. program helps teach students how to make safe and responsible choices. Instructors and students discuss a variety of topics. Students also participate in group work, journaling, and writing an essay.

Thank you to all of the amazing 5th grade teachers for allowing our instructors to present the D.A.R.E. program to your students! Thank you and congratulations to all of the students for participating in and completing the D.A.R.E. program!
