You asked and we listened!

We’re proud of the hard work being done by the maintenance team at Long Park Day Use Area to improve the viewshed and increase public access to the shorelines of Reelfoot Lake.

Under the expert guidance of Allen Trently, West Tennessee Stewardship Ecologist, the team is protecting our natural resources by removing invasive species while creating new opportunities for shoreline access.
These improvements strike an important balance between enhancing public access and preserving the natural beauty and unique character of Reelfoot Lake.

Thank you to our dedicated maintenance team and stewardship staff for their continued commitment to caring for this special place.

Happy International Owl Awareness Day! 🦉
Today we're celebrating a few of our amazing owl ambassadors here at Reelfoot!
🤎 Bobble is an Eastern Screech Owl. These small owls come in two main color variations—gray and reddish-brown. They're commonly found in woods, parks, and even near neighborhoods, but because they're nocturnal, you're most likely to spot them after dark.
🤍 Adam is a Barn Owl. With his pale, heart-shaped face and soft, fluffy feathers, Adam is perfectly adapted for silent nighttime flight. Barn Owls prefer open areas like farmland, grasslands, and old buildings—especially barns!
🩶 Doc is a Barred Owl. Recognizable by his grayish-brown feathers with white barring, Doc thrives in mature forests with plenty of large trees.

Come celebrate these incredible birds with us and learn more about the important role owls play in our ecosystem. We hope you'll make plans to visit our owl ambassadors soon! 🦉💚

Today, July 31, we recognize World Ranger Day, established by the International Ranger Federation to honor the rangers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty and to recognize the dedication of rangers around the world.

Here in Tennessee, our park rangers work every day to protect our state’s natural beauty, historic sites, and cultural heritage. Their commitment to conservation, education, and public safety helps ensure these special places can be enjoyed by future generations.

Today, we thank all of our rangers for their service, dedication, and stewardship of the places we all treasure.
