Hay season is in full swing. Testing your forage costs far less than guessing. The basic forage test costs $14.00 and gives you valuable information on Protein & moisture, Acid Detergent Fiber(ADF), Total Digestible Nutrients(TDN), and Net Energy for: Gain, Lactation; and Maintenance. With the hot, dry conditions if you have concerns about nitrates, those samples can be submitted to SWAFL for only $6.00.
Good laboratory results begin with a good sample.
✔ Collect a representative sample from the field or hay lot.
✔ Sample only the forage you intend to feed.
✔ If sampling standing forage, collect plants from multiple locations throughout the field.
✔ If sampling baled hay, collect cores from multiple bales.
✔ Submit samples to our Extension office Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm. We are closed for lunch from 12:00 to 12:30.
