Tiverton Firefighters Local 1703 Tiverton is located in the East Bay section of Rhode Island, between Aquidneck Island and Fall River, MA.
The Tiverton Fire Department currently protects 16K residents in roughly 30 square miles. Firefighters respond to approximately 3300 calls for service each year. Tiverton Firefighters Local 1703 consists of 28 professional career firefighters. Tiverton Firefighters operate out of three fire stations and staff the following apparatus:
3 Engines
2 Advanced Life Support Ambulances
1 Tanker
1 Squad
1 Forestry
2 Marine Units
1 Shift Commander Vehicle

The Town of Tiverton is currently accepting applications for the position of Firefighter/EMT-Cardiac and/or Firefighter/Paramedic. A list of eligible candidates for the positions will be established from which qualified candidates will be selected for current openings or to fill future vacancies until such time as the list is exhausted.
Minimum requirements: Applicants must be a high school graduate or have a GED, must have RI EMT Cardiac or Paramedic license (preferred) or currently be enrolled in a EMT Cardiac or Paramedic program, valid driver's license, 18 years of age, a current PPA Certificate and a passing test score from the Rhode Island Association of Fire Chief's written exam at the time of hire.

Today marks the 13th anniversary since Tiverton Lieutenant Gerry Leduc lost his life while conducting dive operations in Stafford Pond. On August 3rd, 2008, the Tiverton Fire Department received a 911 call for a person drowning in the pond. Firefighters responded to Stafford Pond where they had removed one party from the water and then began searching for another victim. Lt. Leduc, a certified diver, responded to the pond off duty to assist in the search and rescue operations. While conducting dive operations, Lt Leduc suffered a medical emergency and ultimately succumbed to his medical emergency. Lt. Leduc will always be remembered and greatly missed by the Tiverton Fire Dept. #14
Local 1703 extends our deepest condolences to the members of the Pawtucket Fire Dept on the Active Duty Death of one of their members.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the members of Local 1261 and with his family.
Structure Fire - Shaw Rd
Around 7:30 last night, LCFD was dispatched to a residence on Shaw Road for a house struck by lightening, calling party reported a structure fire. This evening, firefighters responded to the area of Bridle Way for two goats trapped in a pond/wooded area. With the help of a few concerned citizens, firefighters coerced the goats onto Forand Lane where they were able to corral them. The goats were safely left at a pen until the owner was located.
Yesterday, the Tiverton Fire Department placed our newly purchased Lucas Devices in service on our ambulances. The Lucas is an automated compression device that is designed to provide constant, consistent, and quality chest compressions for patients in cardiac arrest. These devices have been shown to greatly improve a patient’s outcome.
We would like to thank the Residents of the Town of Tiverton, the Town Council, the Town Administrator, as well as Chief Reimels for supporting the purchase of this valuable equipment.
New Haven Firefighter Ricardo Torres was killed in the overnight fire at 190 Valley Road and Lieutenant Samod Rankins remains in a medically induced coma. Both Firefighters were found after calling maydays within minutes of each other while searching for more victims in the 2 1/2 story home after having already rescued an elderly couple. Both were found by fellow firefighters unconscious and out of air.
Tiverton Firefighters Local 1703 would like to offer New Haven Fire and their families our sincere condolences on the loss of Firefighter Torres and we are praying for Lieutenant Rankins recovery.

Just before 9am, firefighters responded to this single car MVA on Stafford Rd. Electricity in most of North Tiverton is out due to this accident. National Grid is working to restore power.

✔️Install smoke alarms on every floor, including inside and outside bedrooms.
✔️Test alarms monthly and replace the batteries at least once a year.
✔️Check the date of your alarms and replace if over 10 years.

Crews extinguished an early morning school bus fire in a parking lot on Main Rd. There were no children present and no injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at the time of this post.
Today, Tiverton and Little Compton firefighters along with many EMA volunteers conducted the first of many Covid-19 vaccination clinics for Tiverton and Little Compton residents aged 75 and older at Tiverton High school. We were able administer 195 vaccines to the residents of our communities. We are looking forward to the progression of our vaccination clinics as well as the continued teamwork with Little Compton Fire.

The Town has launched a new website to provide it’s citizens with the latest information regarding Covid. On this site, you can sign up to be placed on a list for the Covid vaccine. Sign ups will follow the State of Rhode Island’s phased roll out.
At this time, anyone 75 or older can sign up. As stated in previous posts, vaccination clinics in Tiverton will begin February 18th and run weekly. Individuals will be contacted with their appointment based off the waiting list.

Last night, Tiverton Firefighters responded mutual aid to Colebrook Rd in Little Compton for a motor vehicle accident. Crews arrived to find a single vehicle on its side. Both occupants were still in the vehicle. Firefighters used the jaws of life to extricate both patients. Due to the nature of the accident both parties were transported to Rhode Island Hospital for evaluation of injuries.

Firefighters assisted Little Compton this morning with a chimney fire with extension.
This morning around 7:30 am LCFD responded to a home for a chimney fire. Upon arrival, there was a light smoke condition in the residence. With further investigation, there was a small fire contained to the wall surrounding the chimney flue. Mutual Aid was provided by Tiverton Fire Department.

At approximately 10:15 this morning, firefighters responded to 324 Cottrell Rd for smoke coming from a house. Upon arrival, firefighters found light smoke showing from the house. Fire was brought under control with in 20 minutes. The fire was contained to one room but the rest of the home sustained smoke and water damage. Mutual aid responded to the scene from Fall River and Portsmouth while Little Compton, Westport, and Middletown covered the stations. No injuries were reported. Unfortunately 6 pets perished in this fire. The fire remains under investigation at the time of this post.

At approximately 12:15 this afternoon, firefighters responded to 27 Mount Hope Ave for a structure fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy fire showing from a vehicle extending to the house. Fire was brought under control with in 45 minutes. Mutual aid responded to the scene from Fall River and Portsmouth while Little Compton, Westport, and Bristol covered the stations. No injuries were reported. The fire remains under investigation at the time of this post.

The Firefighters of Local 1703 would like to congratulate Bruce Reimels on his appointment as Fire Chief this evening.
Chief Reimels began his career in Tiverton as a volunteer in 1988 and was hired full time in 1996. Chief Reimels spent many years as a firefighter before being promoted to Lieutenant and then promoted to Captain.
Local 1703 congratulates you and looks forward to working with you as the Chief.

This evening, firefighters responded to East Rd for a garage fire. First arriving engine found heavy fire coming from a detached garage. Fire was quickly brought under control. A mutual aid tanker was called in from Little Compton. No injuries reported. Fire remains under investigation at the time of this post.

Two of our firefighters participated in a week long rescue swimmer course. This brings the department to eight rescue swimmers. Thank you Charlestown Rescue and Ocean Rescue Systems for offering this valuable training.

As we continue to social distance, many of our younger citizens are going without a typical birthday celebration. When we were asked if we would mind doing a drive by to help celebrate Braydon’s 6th birthday, there was no hesitation by the fire or police department.
