Former 874TH & 863RD EUD and 878TH ENBN HHC alumni whom recently volunteered to deploy with the 201ST Regional support group, receive prestigious Engineering award in Iraq.

CPL John C. Rader formerly of the 874 EUD in Toccoa, and SGT Scott L. Devries formerly of the 878TH ENBN HHC in Augusta, were awarded the Engineer's regimental "Steel de Fleury" Medal during a 201ST RSG hosted dinner at AL Asad Air Base in Iraq.

The "de Fleury" is awarded In recognition of superior service to the United States Army Engineer Regiment as it supports the Army to assure mobility, enhance protection, enable expeditionary logistics, and build capacity in
order to provide commanders with the freedom of action required for full spectrum operations in an era of persistent conflict.

Both Soldiers answered the call and volunteered for the deployment in early 2018 to fill needed Engineering slots. They worked in the office of construction operations as project managers for the 201ST RSG and helped oversee an array of troop labor and locally contracted projects while taking on projects of their own to better the quality of life for the tenants of AL Asad Air Base. The Soldiers have accomplished all sorts of engineering tasks throughout their carriers to bring them to this point. We wish them the best of luck and continued success.

It's that time of year again. The 874th and 863rd conduct annual training in Fort Gordon GA. The 2 week training begins with a field exercise for cold weather preparation in a forward environment. Plenty of high-speed soldiering follows with basic refresher courses on land navigation, night vision, small unit tactics and marksmanship. Construction plays a big role in our training and Soldiers jump right in for the chance to break out the tools and make their mark. A few projects roll down for the troops to complete and the results are phenomenal with precision engineering. The troops fine tune their skills during this time and are able to become a stronger and more close knit unit. A big welcome and a heartfelt goodbye takes place in the 863rd also. This week we say goodbye to Captain Vasquez as he hands over the reigns as company commander to Captain Harvey. Welcome Sir!

This has been a very busy week for the 874th and 863rd EUD and the entire Georgia Army national Guard. Hurricane Irma deployed most of us to South Georgia in relief efforts for the state. But just before Irma arrived, The Soldiers of the 878th Engineer Battalion enjoyed their formal event known as the Engineers Ball.
