Looks what Traveler's Rest has just been awarded with!! We are super excited for this upgrade - THANK YOU Americana Corner & Friends of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites!

Friends of Georgia State Parks is proud to announce that we’ve been selected as a 2026 Americana Corner Preserving America Grant recipient!
The program was established to assist non-profit organizations, like us, in the telling of the incredible story of America from its founding era through its first century as a nation. Grant funds will support Travelers Rest Historic Site. Thanks to our grant award, we will be installing museum grade window inserts throughout Travelers Rest Historic Site to protect artifacts from light damage while preserving the building’s historic character. The site’s 32 original windows allow high levels of ultraviolet and visible light into the interior, exposing documents, textiles, wood finishes, and other artifacts to fading, discoloration, and long-term deterioration. We are honored to be supported by Preserving America to preserve these historic artifacts for years to come.

Friends of Travelers Rest are busy with our “ Christmas at the Inn” event! We had a successful day last Saturday , and are looking forward to more fun this Saturday the 20th ! Local community clubs have joined with our Friends volunteers to decorate our historic old stagecoach Inn with handmade decor , and native greenery …just as in the 1800’s. Visitors are entertained with festive holiday music while helping decorate the tree, enjoying delicious goodies, and sipping hot apple cider. Demonstrations of quilting and spinning flax are ongoing. Also, Tommy and Mary are serving up apple cobbler in our rustic kitchen downstairs…so there is plenty to see, do, and eat!! All are invited to join us this Saturday Dec 20th, 12-4pm for a celebration of a Christmas of the Past…old time style!
