“What are your plans for the store?” is a simple question but there are often 2 answers I seem to give. Answer 1: We continue to seek a resolution with our insurance provider and when we get there we will know more clearly what we are able to do. I thought, at the beginning, that this would be a race - but it falls into the marathon category. After a year and a half of difficult back and forth we’ve hired outside help to assist in arriving at an equitable outcome. We cannot play our hand at the moment because we don’t yet know what it is. Answer 2. Since the fire we’ve put all our efforts and resources into rebuilding. It is still the plan and we would like to thank everyone - our family, friends, customers, and all those who’ve encouraged us - many, many thanks. I post regular shots of where Elk Creek meets the New River. This video is the Miramichi River where I grew up. Between opening the store and COVID travel restrictions my at least one visit stopped in 2018. I was happy to go back this summer for the first time since then. I often liked to share with customers some of the similarities that my hometown and region share with beautiful western NC - a love of being near water and rivers is definitely one of them. Wishing all a peaceful and relaxing close to the summer.

The summer season is upon us, and we really hoped that by this point we would be ready to serve residents and guests of the community. The reality is we have not finalized or settled with our insurance as of yet but hope to soon. We continue to work every day so that when this is settled, we are ready and prepared to go. The first picture here is a mock-up done by that just gets it … we love this and appreciate their comfort in putting well loved wood back into the places where it belongs but doing it to contemporary standards and skill - it is in tune with a phrase we try to set our compass to: “keep the good stuff. Keep looking.”

Reposting this video from of Andrea watching her friend on the Today Show while finishing up some planters she is currently bringing to him in Baltimore - I asked if it was weird seeing her friend on the Today Show and she said, only in a good way, where it feels like the world isn’t so big. I thought that is a real nice way to think of the successes and wins of people in our life.
