Getting out and enjoying nature and the out-of-doors is what Otter Creek Lake and Park is all about. If you are looking for a beautiful, peaceful get away this is the place. Named an Iowa Great Place in 2009. Home of the Tama County Nature Center, currently under development.

More GREEN TIME and less SCREEN TIME while introducing campers to outdoors skills and having fun while we are at it, that's what Tama Cunty Conservation is all about this summer.

Tama County Conservation camps are still open for registration, with the following camps closing soon (just a couple of spots available):

Camp Classics will close on Sunday, July 20, 2025 at 9:00am
Foreside Foodies will close on Sunday, July 20, 2025 at 9:00am

There are still a couple of spaces available in each of the
camps that are coming up.... GET YOUR KIDDOS SIGNED-UP before they are filled! There is no charge for the 2025 Summer Youth Camps, but registration is required.

Couldn't have asked for a nicer night to hold FULL MOON FLOAT at Otter Creek Lake and Park. Although the full moon didn't show up, people did. We had full bookings AND some walk-ups!

Once dusk hit, canoers were outfitted with glowsticks and LED lights (and you thought those were HUGE fireflies in the picture) which made for a fun view out over the lake!

Thanks for coming out everyone!

Looking for a peaceful escape? We have what you need! Nature, stars and canoes. What's not to love???

Come out to Otter Creek Lake and Park for our FULL MOON FLOAT free canoe rental on Saturday, July 12th from 7:00pm to 10:00pm!
Reservations are strongly recommended OR you can show up to take your chance for a first-come-first-served canoe. This is an unguided activity. Terms and conditions apply.

First annual MUD DAY is officially in the books. Hoping to make this into a festival in the future...

For now, these kids knew the assignment (wallow like a warthog, play like a pig and get down and get dirty). I think they NAILED it! Oh, and mud art was made and dirt dessert was consumed!

And maybe , just maybe I earned a few cool points for being a willing participant in a everyone against one mud fight! Everybody got muddy, SO everyone won!!! Not sure my work shirt will be the same....off to the shower!
