Today Polly would be 72! I’m sure she’d love nothing more than for you to register a team or donate!

Pollyball was started 35 years ago with one goal: for families to get the support they need, so they wouldn’t lose a parent, sister, friend, or aunt to this disease. Money raised at Pollyball supports the YWCA Healthy Connections program which provides resources to women in our community to help with education, early detection, help with appointments, rides, etc.

Behind every strong organization are leaders who quietly and consistently step up, solve problems, and keep things moving forward.

Our Operations Director, Patti, continues to lead with incredible strength, dedication, and a true servant’s heart. Patti has shown what leadership looks like in action: stepping in where needed, taking on challenges head-on, and helping ensure our spaces remain safe, functional, and welcoming for everyone who walks through our doors.

Lately, Patti has been leading the charge on a massive undertaking behind the scenes. She's helping organize and streamline our storage efforts across the agency. While organization projects may not always be the most visible work, they have a tremendous impact on our day to day efforts. Thoughtful systems, improved accessibility, and organized spaces help our teams operate more efficiently and ultimately allow us to better serve our community. It takes vision, persistence, and a willingness to tackle big projects, and Patti has embraced that work with determination and grace.

Patti has worked in maintenance as a Journeyman Maintenance Repairer for nearly 30 years, bringing decades of hands-on expertise and experience to everything she does. After spending time volunteering and getting to know the incredible people at the YWCA, she made the decision to officially join our team as Operations Director.

Patti shared that she brings a servant’s heart to this role and looks forward to helping ensure the YWCA is the best, safest, and most enjoyable place to work and live, and we see that commitment reflected in her work every day.

Leadership isn't always loud. Sometimes it's found in the people who roll up their sleeves, stay focused on the details, create order out of chaos, and consistently show up for the mission and for others. Patti embodies that kind of leadership, and we are so grateful for the many ways she continues to strengthen our organization.

Thank you, Patti, for all you do and for the strength, care, and leadership you bring to YWCA each day. 🧡👏

Understanding Trauma

Survivors of sexual violence may respond in many different ways. There is no “right” or “wrong” way to react to trauma.

Common responses may include:
• Shock or denial
• Anxiety or fear
• Difficulty sleeping
• Withdrawal

Healing looks different for everyone and support is available.

What to Do If Someone Discloses

If someone shares that they experienced sexual assault:
➡️ Listen without judgment
➡️ Believe them
➡️ Let them make their own decisions
➡️ Offer resources (YWCA R**e Crisis Center or National Sexual Assault Hotline)

Your response can make a difference in their healing.
