What can 40 years of curiosity lead to? For University of Toledo engineering alumnus JJ Dai, it led to a career spanning software development, global leadership and public service.

After earning his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from UToledo, Dai helped develop technologies supporting critical power systems, led international initiatives and later served in federal energy work. Through it all, one mindset guided him:

Curiosity. Discovery. Contribution.

Now, he's encouraging the next generation of engineers to stay curious, embrace new challenges and never stop learning.

From Toledo to Arkansas, UToledo Rockets are making an impact.

Mechanical engineering student Nathan Zickes is spending his summer with Owens Corning in Fort Smith, Arkansas, gaining hands-on experience in manufacturing operations at a Fortune 500 company.

As part of his co-op, Zickes is helping support the company's zero-waste-to-landfill initiatives while learning how production, logistics and sustainability work together to keep a manufacturing facility running efficiently.

"This is my first co-op in a manufacturing environment, and it's been a great experience," Zickes said.

Experiences like these help UToledo engineering students apply classroom knowledge, explore career paths and build professional skills before graduation.
