What do I do? What do I do? This library book is nearly 50 years overdue!

We had a customer return this Shel Silverstein book, which he believes he checked out some time between 1976 and 1980 when he was working as an English teacher at some local schools. He used it in his classroom to read to students...and never returned it. But, he noticed it on his bookshelf recently, and thought it was time to bring it back!

Luckily, the Toledo Library has been fine-free since 2019.

Ella lives on a fictional island named for Nevin Nollop, the originator of the phrase that uses all the letters of the alphabet: “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.” When the tiles on the sentence of Nollop’s statue start to fall off, the island’s council takes it as a sign that some letters must be banned. As more letters fall, the *ouncil pushes additional laws *onstri*ting *ommuni*ation and turning nei*hbor against nei*hbor. An epistolary no*el about the dan*ers of *ensorship, this book *an best be summed up with just six letters: READ IT.
