🛒 Weekend shopping reminder: Don't let a "great deal" rush your decision.

If you are shopping online, be cautious when you see:

🚩 Prices dramatically lower than everywhere else
🚩 Limited-time pressure
🚩 Sellers who only accept unusual payment methods
🚩 Websites with little or no contact information
🚩 Deals that seem too good to be true

A good deal should still give you time to think.
Research the seller before you pay.

Did you receive a bill saying your website domain is about to expire?
Before you pay it, take a closer look.
BBB Scam Tracker recently received a report from Ohio about a business receiving a mailed invoice demanding $265 to renew its domain name.
Fake invoices can look surprisingly legitimate.
A professional-looking invoice is still just an invoice until you verify it.

Business owners: Be careful with official-looking letters.
BBB is warning businesses about fake government compliance notices designed to look like legitimate communications from government agencies.
The message may demand payment, request business information or tell you that immediate action is required.
Be cautious when a notice:

• Creates extreme urgency
• Demands unusual payment
• Uses threatening language
• Sends you to an unfamiliar website
• Requests sensitive business information

Don't let the word "government" make you skip verification.

When something feels suspicious, stop and verify it independently before taking action.

🤖 Can you tell when something was created by AI?

Artificial intelligence is changing the way we shop, communicate and make decisions and scammers are using new technology too.
That means a polished website, professional-looking photo or convincing message isn't enough to prove something is legitimate.

Before trusting an online offer:
🔎 Research the company.
📞 Verify contact information.
⭐ Check reviews from reliable sources.
💳 Be cautious with unusual payment requests.
⏰ Don't let anyone pressure you into acting immediately.

Technology may be getting smarter. Your skepticism should too.

🚨Michigan consumers: Check important documents when they arrive.
Michigan officials recently addressed an issue involving approximately 8,200 enhanced driver's licenses and state ID cards that were printed with incorrect information.
Affected residents are being sent corrected cards automatically, and officials say people who have valid older IDs can continue using them.
The reminder for all of us?
📬 When an important document arrives, check it.

Look at names, dates, numbers and other important information. If something doesn't look right, contact the agency directly using an official website or phone number not information provided in a suspicious message.

Scammers are getting more convincing and they can even make your caller ID appear to show the name or number of a legitimate bank or credit union.

A current warning from the Michigan Attorney General's Office says scammers are impersonating financial institutions and claiming there is a problem with a customer's account.

Before you give out personal information or move money:

🔹 Hang up.
🔹 Call the bank using the number on your card or official website.
🔹 Never trust the number the caller gives you.
🔹 Never share your PIN, password or verification code.

A familiar name on your caller ID isn't proof that the caller is legitimate.
