At some point each day, we’re all pedestrians. This month, we’re reminding everyone that safety is a two-way street. Whether you’re walking or driving, stay alert and look out for one another.

Thank you to the Hawkins STEAM Academy PTO for passing out our Slow Down yard signs! 😍

Today, the Hawkins STEAM Academy PTO went door-to-door along Bancroft asking our neighbors for permission to put a SLOW DOWN sign in their yard.

And WOW — every single neighbor we talked to said YES! 🙌 A HUGE thank-you to our neighbors supporting our school community.

Thanks to Toledo Safe Routes to School, Toledo kids are getting new helmets, learning how to fix their bikes, and and most importantly ride safely. 🪖❤️

Yesterday, we shared a traffic change at 11th Street and Monroe. That change is the first step in a larger project coming next year. The Ohio Department of Transportation will be constructing a single-lane roundabout at Washington and 11th and making lane changes along Washington from 17th Street to Summit Street. The project will include:

🔄 A single-lane roundabout at Indiana and Washington to create a gateway into the area and encourage slower speeds.

🚲 Narrower lanes and a buffered bike lane to improve safety for people biking.

🚶 A flex zone outside the stadium with bumpouts and raised crosswalks to make it easier and safer for pedestrians to cross.

⬆️ Raised crosswalks on Huron and Superior to increase pedestrian visibility and encourage slower speeds.

Why the changes? Between 2021 and 2025, there were 24 crashes in this area, including two involving pedestrians. Sideswipes were the most common type of crash, making up 42% of all crashes. Together, these changes will help the area flow better while creating safer streets for everyone.

Recently, we changed the traffic flow at 11th Street and Monroe. 🚧

11th Street used to be one-way from Monroe all the way to Jackson. Now, it’s two-way between Monroe and Jackson.
