French-Canadian Genealogical Society of Connecticut, Inc.

French-Canadian Genealogical Society of Connecticut, Inc. The FCGSC operates a genealogical research library, helps trace family roots with a focus on French- and Canada.

The purpose of the Society is to establish and maintain a genealogical research library for persons of French-Canadian ancestry; to encourage the study of Canadian and American history; to extend knowledge of accurate methods and documentation in genealogical research; and to celebrate our American heritage of multicultural diversity. We operate a genealogical library of materials relevant to peop

le of French-Canadian descent, with additional resources for persons whose ancestors settled in the New England area. The library is open four days per week, serving an average of 500 patron visits on site over 190 days or 850 hours of research time per year, as well as providing research advice by phone to distant members and offering a free online genealogical queries service to both members and non-members on our Society’s web site at www.fcgsc.org . The Society publishes and distributes to our members a biannual journal, the Connecticut Maple Leaf and a quarterly newsletter, The Maple Leaflet. These are mailed to approximately 400 members and 40 libraries, repositories, and genealogical organizations in the U.S. We also offer free public workshops and seminars at the library on research methods and various genealogical/historical topics and provide speakers on request to local organizations. Our Library is located in the Old Tolland County Courthouse at 53 Tolland Green, Tolland, Connecticut. Use of the library is free to members, and open to non-members for a $5.00 per day research fee. Library hours are Monday and Wednesday 1-5PM, Saturday 9 AM-4 PM, and Sunday 1-4 PM. Holiday closings are posted on our web site at www.fcgsc.org .
