🦅 Injured Hawk Rescued in Mansfield🦅

Earlier this evening, a concerned citizen noticed an injured hawk in the area of Coventry RD and Mansfield City Rd in the Town of Mansfield and contacted Troop C for assistance.

Mansfield Resident Trooper Jamaitus responded and safely assisted the hawk, which had been struck by a motor vehicle. The hawk is now receiving care at a local wildlife center.

Thank you to the citizen who took the time to call for help, and great work, Trooper!

Opioid Overdose Rescue Kits can save lives. Through partnership with DMHAS, Connecticut State Police Troopers recently completed training to strengthen their ability to respond to opioid overdoses and connect individuals with life-saving resources. Troop C welcomes the addition of 3 Trooper Trainees. TPR DiNardi, TPR Mieras, and TPR Topulos, who successfully graduated the 138th Training Troop at the State Police Academy after 28 weeks of training. These new Trooper Trainees will now begin a 45 day field training program. Wish them luck!

Troop C is seeking the public's assistance in identifying the individuals pictured in connection with a Larceny investigation in the Town of Tolland. The larceny took place on 07/20/2026 at approximately 3:30 A.M.

These individuals are shown breaking into the victims locked garage, stealing 6 dirtbikes, in the area of Old Post Road and Belvedere Drive.

If you have any information, to include video footage of suspicious vehicles/pickup trucks and trailers around this time, please contact the Connecticut State Police - Troop C, Trooper Godwin #960 at (860)-896-3200.

***Residents are reminded to keep garages, sheds, and other outbuildings secured at all times. Organized theft groups are actively targeting off-road vehicles, and taking preventative security measures can help reduce the risk of becoming a victim.***

State Police Lieutenant Graduates FBI National Academy

State Police Lieutenant Joseph Hayward was one of 255 law enforcement officers to graduate today from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. To attend, participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions.

The 298th session of the National Academy consisted of men and women from 46 states and the District of Columbia. The class also included 29 international members of law enforcement agencies from 26 countries, five military organizations, and four federal civilian organizations.

Lt. Hayward started his State Police career with the 122nd Training Troop in 2012. Since then, he has been assigned as a Patrol Trooper at Troop C in Tolland, as an Ellington Resident Trooper, in the CARS Unit (Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad), and as a Mansfield Resident Trooper. Upon his promotion to sergeant, he served Troop C patrol. After being promoted to Lieutenant, he was Chief of Staff in the Office of Professional Standards & Training. He is currently assigned as Commanding Officer at Troop C.

In addition, he has served 22 years in the Connecticut Air National Guard, now a Captain and serving as the Commander of the Civil Engineer Squadron at Bradley ANGB. Lt. Hayward earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a Master’s degree in criminal justice from American Military University.

***Troop C K-9s Wrap Up Busy Week with Successful Apprehensions***

Troop C K-9s Apollo, Zeke, and Viper had a very active week supporting multiple incidents across Tolland County and the state.

On Saturday, 05/16/2026, Troop C K-9s assisted with breaking up a large illegal cockfighting operation in the Town of Tolland. All three K-9s were deployed to help contain 100 individuals at the scene. Several suspects who attempted to flee into surrounding neighborhoods were located and apprehended with the assistance of our K-9 units.

On Tuesday, 05/19/2026, K-9s Zeke and Apollo assisted the Middletown Police Department in searching for an armed individual who had discharged a firearm in their jurisdiction.

On Wednesday, 05/20/2026, K-9 Viper responded to an address in Ashford for a burglary suspect who had barricaded themselves inside an apartment and refused to exit. After Troopers breached the door, the suspect surrendered to K-9 Viper and Troopers without further incident. The situation was resolved safely, preventing any injuries to both Troopers and the suspect.

Our K-9s are frequently called upon to assist neighboring agencies and other troops. These highly trained K-9s play a critical role in safely resolving dangerous situations and de-escalating critical incidents.
