***Troop C K-9s Wrap Up Busy Week with Successful Apprehensions***

Troop C K-9s Apollo, Zeke, and Viper had a very active week supporting multiple incidents across Tolland County and the state.

On Saturday, 05/16/2026, Troop C K-9s assisted with breaking up a large illegal cockfighting operation in the Town of Tolland. All three K-9s were deployed to help contain 100 individuals at the scene. Several suspects who attempted to flee into surrounding neighborhoods were located and apprehended with the assistance of our K-9 units.

On Tuesday, 05/19/2026, K-9s Zeke and Apollo assisted the Middletown Police Department in searching for an armed individual who had discharged a firearm in their jurisdiction.

On Wednesday, 05/20/2026, K-9 Viper responded to an address in Ashford for a burglary suspect who had barricaded themselves inside an apartment and refused to exit. After Troopers breached the door, the suspect surrendered to K-9 Viper and Troopers without further incident. The situation was resolved safely, preventing any injuries to both Troopers and the suspect.

Our K-9s are frequently called upon to assist neighboring agencies and other troops. These highly trained K-9s play a critical role in safely resolving dangerous situations and de-escalating critical incidents.

This week the Connecticut State Police and the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicle Police will be partnering with the Connecticut Department of Transportation for a work zone traffic enforcement initiative. In order to keep Connecticut highway work zones safe, we are asking the public to slow down and move over. Leading up to the holiday weekend, you will see more Connecticut Troopers and DMV Inspectors conducting enforcement on Connecticut’s highways near and around work zones.

May is Dirt Bike Safety Month.

Troop C has seen an increase in complaints involving unregistered off-road vehicles. We’re asking riders and the community to help keep our roads, neighborhoods, and trails safe by following the law and riding responsibly.

Always wear proper safety gear, ride within your skill level, and stay on designated trails. Dirt bikes, ATVs, and side-by-sides are not permitted on public roads, sidewalks, school property, or parks.

***K9 Viper Tracks Down Suspect in Union Swamp***

On 05/11/2026 at approximately 2225 hours, Troop C Troopers were advised that Massachusetts State Police was in pursuit of a Gray BMW with New York license plates. MSP reported they had successfully deployed stop sticks, but terminated their pursuit at the I-84 westbound MA/CT border.

Troopers conducted patrol checks of the area and discovered the gray BMW in the area of the Union weigh station with extensive damage. Troopers located one suspect near the vehicle with serious injuries. EMS personnel were summoned to the scene at this time.

On scene witnesses reported seeing another occupant fleeing the area on foot. K-9 Viper and his handler arrived on scene and they began tracking into a thick swampy area near Exit 73. K9 Viper located and apprehended the second suspect with the assistance of additional Troopers on scene.

One suspect was taken into custody without incident and additional charges are pending for the second suspect. Both suspects were transported to Hartford Hospital by EMS.

🚨HELP IDENTIFY IDENTITY THEFT SUSPECT🚨

Troop C is investigating an Identity Theft incident. We are seeking assistance from the public to help identify the male suspect in these photos. The suspect is believed to be a black male wearing a green and white letterman-style jacket. The suspect can been seen entering a dark-colored 4-door sedan bearing CT plates.

‼️HELP TO IDENTIFY SUSPECT‼️

Troop C is seeking the public's assistance in identifying the individual pictured in connection with an investigation in the Town of Tolland.

This individual is believed to be involved in a suspicious incident involving the unlawful entry into a residence on 04/20/2026, at approximately 8:00 PM.

The residence had previously been the target of a burglary on 02/09/2026. Surveillance cameras were installed after that incident.

Anyone who recognizes this individual or has information that may assist Troopers is asked to contact Troop C - Trooper Nuccio at (860)-896-3200. Any information received may assist in furthering these investigations.
