June 2026 Monthly Report

The Tomahawk Police Department responded to 222 complaints/calls for service and conducted 68 traffic stops during the period of June 1, 2026, through June 25, 2026. Several cases were referred to the District Attorney’s Office for criminal charges. Officers were assigned a variety of cases to investigate.
The most frequent calls for services for the month of June were:

We handled 222 calls for service in June 2026. The numbers provided are not inclusive of all of June. In June 2025 we handled 172 calls for service. In 2025 we responded to 2326 calls for service. There was a 4.5% increase in calls from 2024 to 2025. In 2026 we handled 1192 calls.
The Tomahawk Police Department received a grant from the Wisconsin state chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). This grant was in the amount of $1202.10 and was for the overtime and travel caused by Officer Frostman attending the CIT in Wausau. This makes the total amount of grants obtained by TPD in 2026 at $3662.
SRO Susa attended the annual SRO training conference in Appleton from June 9-11. This is the closest SRO training conference to Tomahawk. This is also a great way to network with other SRO across the state.
The Tomahawk Police Department stopped 68 vehicles, provided 80 warnings and issued 34 citations for the month of June.
We have applied for a grant through the Wisconsin Public Service to assist us in replacing the A.E.D.’s in the squads. We continue to look for grants to fund these products.
I advised the Common Council that the proposed wake ordinance was unenforceable by the Police Department. We do not have a marine unit or the ability to enforce violations on the water. There are several communities that are facing litigation with this type of ordinance.
The Badger Project posted a story on social media about one of our employees who was formerly employed in Portage County. We were aware of the issues that the employee had with Portage County. We conducted a background check as well as other examinations and research as we do on all candidates. This information was provided to the Police and Fire Commission. He explained the issue and the remedy that was provided.
The Police and Fire Commission discussed this in closed session. I will not discuss the closed session findings. Upon entering back into open session, a vote was called as to whether we should move forward with a conditional offer of employment. The vote was unanimous to move forward with the officer.
I learned that one of the PFC Commissioners indicated on the social media post that she did not vote for the candidate. This is factually incorrect. I filed an open records request with the City Clerk’s Office for the minutes from the meeting of February 26, 2024. The records confirm that all commissioners voted to go forward with the hiring process. I have contacted the PFC president as well as the Mayor and informed them of the issue with this Commissioner and her deceptive behavior. I will be requesting that her removal for cause (i.e. inefficiency, official misconduct and malfeasance in office) be considered since she has violated Wi. Stat.sec.17.01. I would anticipate that this matter will come back to the Common Council for a vote per WI. Stat. 17.12 and 17.16.
Training and Appearances scheduled for this month included
• Officer Krich and K-9 Pipo train on a weekly basis.
• Sgt Gorell Assisted PCCU with robbery deterrence training.
• Sgt Gorell provided active shooter training to the ushers at St. Paul’s.
