Tomales Volunteer Fire Company

Tomales Volunteer Fire Company The Tomales Volunteer Fire Company supports Marin County Fire by providing basic life support and firefighting services to the community.

Established in 1976, the Tomales Volunteer Fire Company at the time was one of the few Marin County Stations to utilize volunteers to supplement permanent staff. Our volunteers, provide basic life support paramedic services, wildland and structural firefighting, response to traffic accidents, falls, hazardous materials response, search & rescue, water rescue and disaster response. The Tomales Stat

ion covers the largest service area of any Marin County Fire Department. The Tomales fire station serves Tomales, Dillon Beach, Marshal and Chileno Valley in addition to providing mutual aide to the communities of Bodega Bay, Two Rock, Valley Ford and the US Coast Guard Base in Two Rock. Most importantly, the Tomales Volunteer Fire Company’s water tender 1590 serves as a crucial water source for fire suppression in remote areas such as the Point Reyes Peninsula and other rural areas. We need volunteers to provide critical support to our community! Join our team and learn new skills including basic medical, wildland fighting, engine driver training, among other crucial skills to respond to an emergency.

TVFC was invited to participate in the annual Marin County Wildland Academy at St. Vincents last week, and we were proud to have four TVFC members there for all three days.

This year, TVFC staffed two water tenders — our own Water Tender 1590 from Tomales, as well as a Marin County Fire water tender out of Woodacre. In past years, I had suggested that the academy would benefit from having two water tenders staffed by TVFC, and this year not only did that happen, but for the first time in what may be the academy’s history, TVFC was placed in charge of water operations.

It was a great three days of training, teamwork, and coordination. Keeping up with the water supply for the academy required a lot of planning and communication, and we were honored to be trusted with that responsibility.

A special thank you to Stinson Beach Fire, who staffed their own Water Tender 890 all three days with two volunteers. Thank you also to Marin Municipal Water District, who staffed Water Tender 990 all three days. And a very special thank you to Marin County Fire, our partner, for allowing TVFC to take the lead on water operations this year and for providing the additional water tender out of Woodacre.

As always, if you live in Tomales, Dillon Beach, Marshall, or anywhere in our response area, we are looking for new volunteers. You could have been out there with us.

Come be part of the team.

Hello Everyone- Chief 500 here,

It is with great pleasure that I announce Mark Stoering has been appointed Assistant Chief of the Tomales Volunteer Fire Company.

Mark has served as a volunteer with us for approximately 10 years. In my 28 years of volunteer service, very few individuals have matched his commitment, reliability, and dedication to TVFC. He consistently shows up, puts in the work, and leads by example.

Mark is, in my opinion, one of the finest water tender driver-operators around. He was truly “thrown into the fire” during the 2017 Sonoma Complex Fires, and his performance under pressure was outstanding. He handled himself with professionalism, calm, and determination when it mattered most.

Beyond his operational skills, Mark has been a trusted friend and steady presence within our department. I honestly cannot think of anyone who has a negative word to say about him — and that speaks volumes.

Please welcome the 501!
