The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is currently Investigating property damage that occurred at the Ham and Henderson Lodge on Bethlehem Church Road. Last night as you all may know our department suffered a great loss. Dale “FROG” Ford who had devoted much of his life to law enforcement and was currently serving as the Sheriff of Monroe County. Frog never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone. He went above and beyond on a daily basis to protect and serve our community and to help anyone who was In need no matter what the situation was. Not only was he the Sheriff, he was a mentor, a friend, a brother, but most importantly he was family. We are all devastated and heartbroken for the fact that he has passed on but we will always keep in memory of all the times that we have shared together. At this time we as a department would like to express our deepest condolences to the family as you all are in our thoughts and prayers. Around 1am on Sunday morning April 19th a Green Craftsman riding Lawnmower 42 in cut and a red farm gate were stolen from a barn on Turkey Neck Bend Rd before you get to the ferry. The deadline is drawing near for Property Taxes!!

Last day for property tax collection before they are turned over as delinquent will be Wednesday April 15th,2026.

Sheriffs Department hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 am-4:00pm.

With threats of bad weather coming into the county in the next few days, we ask that everyone start prepping for it now. If you need groceries or have pressing matters to attend to, please get out and get them taken care of as soon as possible. If the bad weather comes in, we ask that if you do not need to be out on the roads, for your safety and the safety of others please stay at home.

On Tuesday December 30th, 2025 at approximately 4:00 PM Monroe County Sheriffs Deputy Richard Shirley was dispatched to a call on Washington Street in Gamaliel, where a woman was walking close to the soccer field and had been attacked by 4 dogs. Upon arrival the lady received medical attention due to suffering from several lacerations ranging in depth from the surface of the skin to the bone. Victim also had multiple broken bones and crush injuries. Victim was taken by EMS to the Bowling Green Medical Center, where she was then life flighted to Nashville due to injuries. After a lengthy search for the dogs by Deputy Shirley and members of the Gamaliel Fire Department, one dog was located on East main street in Gamaliel near Fannie Jean's restaurant where it was immediately taken down. The other three dogs were unable to be located and still at large at the time.
