According to Mayor Daniel Rodrick, Toms River Police Chief Guy Maire is expected to be out on leave for “a few weeks.” Multiple sources also report that Maire was seen cleaning out his desk at police headquarters prior to his departure. His office nameplate had also been removed.

During Maire’s absence, Captain Anthony Scali will serve as Officer in Charge of the department.

Maire is the third police chief to lead the department since Rodrick became mayor. He followed Mitch Little, who retired in August 2024, and Peter Sundack, who retired in April after taking leave during the summer of 2025.

Today, we remember the courage and sacrifice of the heroes of D-Day who fought to defend freedom on June 6, 1944.

We also proudly honor Toms River’s own Leonard G. “Bud” Lomell, whose bravery as a U.S. Army Ranger helped change the course of history during the Normandy invasion.

May we never forget the sacrifices made by the Greatest Generation. 🇺🇸

Mayor Dan Rodrick has filed a lawsuit against the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office seeking complete access and control over the Toms River Police Department’s page. The lawsuit also seeks access for the Mayor’s Administration to a personal police dispatch radio, a request that was previously denied by former Police Chief Peter Sundack.

At a time when residents are facing real challenges and taxpayer dollars should be focused on public safety, infrastructure, and essential services, many are asking: is this really the best use of public resources?

Tom Nivison is setting the record straight: He strongly supports the Second Amendment, and his family has a long and respected history of standing behind those constitutional rights.

Recent statements made by Mayor Rodrick and affiliated social media pages have misrepresented Councilman Nivison’s position on the Second Amendment. The facts are clear: Councilman Nivison remains a firm supporter of lawful gun ownership and the constitutional rights protected under the Second Amendment.

The cancellation of Toms River Police Youth Camp for another year is deeply disappointing for our community. According to the Toms River Police Department, the program once again cannot move forward due to extreme staffing shortages within the Police Department.

This is not just about a summer camp being canceled. Police Youth Camp was a special program that had a real and lasting impact on so many children and families. It gave kids an opportunity to build positive relationships with officers, learn valuable life lessons, create lasting memories, and strengthen the bond between law enforcement and our community. Programs like this matter because they help shape the next generation.

The fact that a program with such value and impact cannot continue because of severe understaffing should concern every resident. When a department is stretched too thin, important community outreach efforts are often the first things lost. Our children, families, and community deserve better.

We support our officers and hope to see the day when staffing levels are restored and impactful programs like Police Youth Camp can once again return to Toms River.
