According to Mayor Daniel Rodrick, Toms River Police Chief Guy Maire is expected to be out on leave for “a few weeks.” Multiple sources also report that Maire was seen cleaning out his desk at police headquarters prior to his departure. His office nameplate had also been removed.
During Maire’s absence, Captain Anthony Scali will serve as Officer in Charge of the department.
Maire is the third police chief to lead the department since Rodrick became mayor. He followed Mitch Little, who retired in August 2024, and Peter Sundack, who retired in April after taking leave during the summer of 2025.
