The Ocean County Sheriff's Office is now accepting applications for our Basic Telecommunicator and Emergency Medical Dispatch Certification Courses.
Classes run October 4th through October 29th, 2026, Sunday through Thursday, 6pm to 10pm, at the Ocean County Office of Emergency Management, Robert J. Miller Airpark, 901 Route 530, Berkeley Township.
The Basic Telecommunicator Course is a 40-hour course required for all 9-1-1 call takers, covering the basics of dispatching calls for law enforcement, fire, and EMS. The Emergency Medical Dispatch Course is a state-approved certification that teaches students how to answer, prioritize, and dispatch medical calls, and how to give callers instructions for care before help arrives. Both courses include hands-on practical exercises. CPR certification is included, with that class held Sunday, October 18th.
The cost is $125, refunded if you're hired by our office. Attire is business casual, and materials are provided the first night of class.
Class space is limited to 30 students, and registration closes October 1st, 2026, or when the class fills up, whichever comes first.
To apply, print out the application and drop it off at the Ocean County Sheriff's Office, Attn: Ms. Kristine Kasper, 3rd Floor Justice Complex, 120 Hooper Ave, Toms River.
