Toms River Fire Company 2 This company is incorporated under the laws of the State of New Jersey. Incorporated on April Toms River Fire Company No. 2 was incorporated on April 18, 1922.

This organization shall be known by the name of Toms River Fire Company # 2 Incorporated of the Township of Toms River, County of Ocean and State of New Jersey. Toms River Fire Company No. 2 provides fire suppression and rescue services to the downtown and central areas of Toms River Township. We utilize 2 Engines, 1 Brush Trucks, 1 Heavy Rescue, and various support vehicles out of our 2 stations.

Main Station is located downtown on W Water Street and our substation is located on Hooper Ave just north of Route 37. The members listed below are known charter members: A. Novins, Benjamin Novins, Jack Costa, George Alshierile, H. Dittimar, Herbert Clayton, Roy Goble. First apparatus was a 1922 Packard car built with a chemical firefighting system on the body. Notable events in the early years:

Toms River Fire Co. No. 2 was on the initial response to Navy Base Lakehurst on May 6, 1937 to assist with the crash and fire of the air ship Hindenburg. Toms River Co. 2 firefighters were given a letter of commendation from base commander C.E Rosendahl. Toms River Fire Co. No. 2 responded to the Ocean County Jail fire on Sunday morning August 23, 1959. 8 inmates perished, 4 Toms River firefighters were badly injured along with one civilian. On December 11, 2001 these firefighters were awarded with medals of honor from the fire department.

Earlier today, just prior to 11:00am, Toms River Fire Companies Stations 25 and 26, along with East Dover Fire Company Station 28, were dispatched to a possible structure fire. First arriving units confirmed active fire conditions and quickly upgraded the incident to a second alarm, bringing additional resources to the scene.

Fire department personnel initiated suppression operations and were able to bring the fire under control in a timely manner. The structure sustained heavy damage as a result of the fire. The Toms River Building Department responded to the scene and has posted the structure as unsafe for occupancy.

There were reported injuries associated with this incident; however, specific information is not available at this time.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention. Inspectors Britton and Kappock are the investigators for the Bureau, working in cooperation with the Toms River Police Department, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

2/8/26- Structure Fire-At 0340, shortly after returning from a dumpster fire, Companies were assigned to a commercial structure fire downtown. Crews arrived within two minutes and located an exterior fire extending up the siding of the building. The fire was quickly knocked and the building was opened up. The fire is currently under investigation.

This morning, our members were proud to attend the Toms River Fire Department Awards Ceremony hosted at Pleasant Plains Fire Department Station 30.

Several members were recognized with a Unit Citation for their professionalism and teamwork during a motor vehicle accident response in March 2025. Their actions exemplify the high standards of service our community expects and deserves.

We also celebrated Length of Service Awards, honoring the dedication and commitment of our members over the years. A special congratulations to Ex-Chief John Novak, who was recognized for 50 years of active service to the department—an incredible milestone and a true testament to lifelong dedication.

Thank you to the Boards of Fire Commissioners Districts 1 and 2 for organizing and hosting this annual awards ceremony, and for their continued support of the men and women who serve our community every day.
