We're lucky here to have so many great, locally owned businesses that support this community and make it uniquely ours. Let's all show them some love this holiday season - especially on this !
"We should just be thankful for being together. I think that's what they mean by Thanksgiving."

Statement from Buffalo regarding the investigation at Rainbow Bridge:
Please be aware, all border crossings to and from Canada are closed:
"At my direction, the New York State Police is actively working with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force to monitor all points of entry to New York," Gov. Kathy Hochul
In this week's Ken-Ton Bee Newspaper:
This is a new poster by AARP New York, featuring state legislators who are helping care for senior family members. To all the unsung family caregivers who share this responsibility and privilege, upholding the dignity and wellness of older loved ones: We salute you.
To ensure the families they serve can enjoy a happy Thanksgiving, Niagara Community Action Program, Inc.'s Neighborhood Center, housed at Redeemer Lutheran in North Tonawanda, is distributing food for the festive season. My office was eager to contribute - and this morning, I stopped by the pantry with a donation of turkeys. Our thanks go to primary outreach worker Linda Harrington, left, and staff Sue Panna and Sue Brent, for all they do, all year round.
A Milton J Brounshidle American Legion Post 205 awards dinner last night offered the chance to celebrate installation of its new elevator - a badly needed capital enhancement, ensuring the post's three floors are reliably accessible to all. The project's funding was secured by my Assembly predecessor Robin Schimminger, who shared its unveiling with me.
Franklin fifth-grader Jayden Gersitz - the son and nephew of Kenilworth Vol Fire Co. # 1 firefighters - jumped into action last May to usher first responders to a spectator who suffered a medical crisis during a school baseball game. His grace under pressure and spirit of service are beyond his years and earned him a State Senate Liberty Medal, which Sean M. Ryan presented to him yesterday. It was my pleasure to join the ceremony in support of Jayden, whose heroics inspired a column I published earlier this year, as well as a speech I made on the Assembly floor. Way to go, Jayden.
My colleagues and I enjoyed a constructive discussion today with University at Buffalo Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences' Student Pharmacists Association of WNY, for their annual Pharmacy Legislative Advocacy Invitational Day. We covered a host of bills that relate to their chosen profession, and their insights are great to have as we prepare for our return to session.

Enjoyed a visit today with John W Danforth and Mollenberg-Betz, Inc. to U.A. Local 22 Plumbers and Steamfitters, where New York State Department of Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon was treated to an overview of the Local's awesome apprenticeship programs. Happy !
Thank you, Rep. Brian Higgins, for your decades of advocacy on our behalf, for your steady example of service, and for your civic and collegial partnership.
Gayle Syposs was a trailblazer, the first woman elected to the City of Tonawanda Council in 1975. A deeply entrenched political leader, she'd seen everything, triumph to loss, and though she wasn't easily surprised, she remained fascinated by it all.
Gayle was resolute, tireless, direct. And there was never a question: She loved the Democratic Party. She loved her city. Above all else, though, she loved her late husband Chauncey, their children, and their grandchildren, of whom she was so proud. She will be missed.
Few services are as humbling or as meaningful as our services, which included tributes today by the Twin Cities and the Town. It was my honor to join the ceremony at the Municipal Building, and I thank the Town of Tonawanda, Milton J Brounshidle American Legion Post 205, and Harry E. Crosby VFW Post 2472 for gathering the community in salute to all who've served, and retired U.S. Army Reserve Lt. Col. Terry McGuire for delivering the guest address.
All are welcome at the Veterans Day Ceremony the Town of Tonawanda will host along with the Milton J. Brounshidle Post No. 205, Saturday, Veterans Day, at the Municipal Building at 11:00 a.m. Our speaker will be Lt. Col. Terry McGuire, (Retired) U.S Army Reserve, and 2011 inductee into the New York State Veterans Hall of Fame.
Need a set of new tires? Maybe you'll win a set at the grand opening celebration tomorrow, Sat. Nov. 11 at RNR Tire Express Express! Located at 3373 Delaware Ave in Kenmore, RNR will be offering free tire safety checks, face painting, balloon art, free food from Sweet Shack and Pizza Amore , and over $2,500 in prizes from 9 am- 5 pm.
Town Supervisor Joe Emminger and NYS Assemblyman William Conrad joined us yesterday to welcome the Johnson family's business to the Town of Tonawanda. RNR offers tires, wheels, alignments and more with flexible payment plans. No credit needed. Everyone's approved!
I know firsthand how costly sewer upkeep is for our local governments. It's also critically necessary work, as it protects the integrity of our properties, our health, and our waterways. The passage of Proposal 2 this week - to extend a longstanding exclusion of sewer project indebtedness for municipalities - helps our counties, cities, towns and villages finance these expensive and often federally mandated repairs and upgrades.
Ballot Proposal One, to remove small city school districts from a special constitutional debt limitation, had a “yes” vote of about 58%. Proposal Two, related to sewage project debt, had a slightly more comfortable 61% voting yes.
It was my honor today to join the Horizon Health Services team in celebrating the opening of its beautiful new clinic in the City of Tonawanda, where Horizon has been offering mental health and addiction treatment services for 40-plus years. This center doubles the space available to its clients in the COT, and represents Horizon's unwavering commitment to the well-being of our community.
No one's too young to learn how important (or how fun) it is to vote. Today I took part in St. Mary's School for the Deaf's mock election - and got to take home this cool magnet, complete with student artwork.
Our Town of Tonawanda Paramedics are tireless in their mission to share life-saving skills with the community. I stopped by the unit's CPR course, offered today at Franklin to Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda Union Free School District staff - and I couldn't be prouder of everyone who participated. The Paramedics regularly provide this training for free, and I was able to help this year with some state funding to keep the classes going. Now's the time to learn if you haven't already!
Today's the day to exercise your sacred franchise. Polls are open!
Tremendous news for the Town of Tonawanda, UAW Region 9, General Motors, Tonawanda, N.Y., and all of WNY! This signals a robust transition to EV production - and that, in turn, secures a successful future for the plant, our region's economy, and our skilled workforce.
Together, the investments total more than $522 million for the three Western New York operations, helping to secure their future.
I wanted to share this link to the memorial fund for the family of Keyshawn Gault. Mr. Gault, 22, worked for the Buffalo Sewer Authority and was tragically killed Oct. 26 in a shooting on I-190. May he rest in peace.
Take part in remembering Keyshawn "Keys" Gault. Read his obituary, share your own memories, and learn about any funeral details on Ever Loved.
Friendly reminder!
With approaching, I wanted to share this notice from Tops Friendly Markets:
Snow already! I wanted to share, the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) can help you save money on heating (and cooling) your home. You can also recoup some of the cost of repairing or replacing essential heating equipment. To apply, or to see if you’re eligible, visit: https://otda.ny.gov/programs/heap/
Happy Halloween to you, from me and my crew:
A big thank-you to U.A. Local 22 Plumbers and Steamfitters for today's overview of their Training Center's 5-year apprenticeship program, which offers strong wages and benefits, earned while trainees learn their trade in night classes and hands-on practice. As Chair of the Legislative Commission on Skills Development and Career Education, I couldn't be more excited about the opportunities available here for our region's workforce.
Halloween weekend is under way! First stop: North District Councilmember Joseph Golombek’s Trick-or-Treat event at Northwest Buffalo Community Center. Now we're in Lincoln Park for Town of Tonawanda Youth, Parks & Recreation’s Halloween Bash. Hope to see you!

Look at this lovely addition to the lawn of Carnegie Art Center in NT. The sandstone fountain serves a great function, too, diverting and circulating rainwater from rear downspouts. This will reduce the impact of storm flooding on the parking lot and building foundation - and on City resources. I got to see the finished result today, thanks to Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Legacy Funds, granted to the CAC with the help of Mayor Austin Tylec and the City, which owns the property.
Here’s to the Town’s thriving commercial corridor! We just joined the Kenmore Town of Tonawanda Chamber of Commerce in welcoming Bella Dulce Cafe to 2938 Delaware Ave. Congrats to owner Kristie Andrews and family - and I can’t wait to return with the kids for some gelato.

The Big Three's #recordprofitsmeanrecordcontracts for #UAW. I stand with you, UAW Region 9, in your fight for cost-of-living adjustments, an end to tiers (equal pay for equal work!), and a just transition to EVs. #StandUpUAW
